| Five Iron Frenzy – On Distant Shores Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This song is absolutely amazing ... You don't believe in religions? Interesting ... I believe in relationships, personally. I'm not interested in philosophical notions or distant, abstract deities, so thank God for Yeshua--for his love! But believe what you like, friend! My guitar teacher, who used to be in this band, told me that the end of this song was written for a completely different song they never finished ... they just slapped in on 'cause it worked ... I laughed, because, well, IS THIS NOT AMAZING?! |

| Five Iron Frenzy – Blue Comb '78 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
The idea for this song arose while some of the band members were sitting around and joking about some sad stuff that happened to them. One interjected, "Hey, I lost my blue comb once ..." They made a song about it. ^_^ Really. I know an ex-band member; he's my guitar teacher. He said, when I commented to him on the line about his childhood being represented by the comb, "He could be as serious as he wanted to be about anything ..." So there you go. Love this song. |

| Underoath – Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I'm sure Yeshua did call Judas back ... but he never responded. He comitted suicide, forgetting totally and completely that God, even then, would have forgiven him. Is that not sad? Definitely. Likewise, whether or not this song is actually told from Yeshua's perspective speaking to Judas, I think it has a message that explains why on earth this song seems to resonate with everyone: Everyone, EVERYONE, EVERYONE, has screwed up ... and everyone still is, all the time. This song is so big with a lot of you atheists, simply because you know what it's like to mess up and have someone who you never thought would, forgive you. And it's big (or bigger, even) with my brothers and sisters, because ... for someone to be a Christ-Follower, they first have to realize how much they've messed up. That means looking at your wrists and knowing you don't even come close to deserving that blood-flow sustaining you right now. But the fact that we're still here, alive and well, and even more have been given a chance to really LIVE, not just exist, that's more amazing than this song could ever get across. But still, this is really amazing stuff. Copleland is awesome, also. Really astounding stuff right here, in this song, and in what it means and where it's coming from. |

| Underoath – A Boy Brushed Red ... Living In Black And White Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This is a great song. See, I've never been into hardcore or screamo or anything even similar to that before. But one Sunday morning, I came out of my Sunday school class, and on this huge TV screen they have Underoath's music video for "Writing on the Walls" playing. If you've seen it, you can imagine me trying to make sense of it at church ... lol I fell in love with them, so I looked into their stuff, saw this song's title, inferred it had to be about sexuality to some degree. Knowing their spiritual position led me to check it out ... And here I am, babbling. Anyway, I love this song and the band. And yes, I agree it's very cool that so many of you guys listening are seculars. It means UO is doing a pretty good job ... I can't stand Christian mainstream at all. But this stuff, very good music. Obviously, the song is told from the perspective of two "lovers/virgins" who are too near to the edge and decide to push the envelope of their relationship by sleeping together. Once they do, though, everything is screwed up: They've, in an instant, lost what they can never truly gain back and have become like everyone else, dying in their sin. The whole theme of sexuality, being so relevant, was an awesome topic to pick up on, I think, no? After all, too many (like some of the posters a few pages back said) have been through this same JUNK ... They take God's awesome gifts (sex, here) and misuse them, causing grief and hurt and pain. Anyway, in an unnecessary essay format, that's what I got out of this. |

| Chevelle – Grab Thy Hand Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Typically, this song is thought to meant taking God's hand (hence the language, "Thy hand"), but I see how a secular could interpret differently. It seems sad: Every time I run into a talented band with Christian roots (Evanescence, Lostprophets, et cetera), they all too quickly abandon that. A shame. "if you truly believe in God's love, then you wouldn't have to ask permission." That's a strange statement. No matter what, you'll remain in God's love, but he won't force it on anyone, nor will he demand you take the gift of salvation offered through his Son. He's ready to save the whole world, and in an instant he would, too. God's already put something on the table; he's just waiting for us to get over all our denials and excuses and cast our pride away and take what he's offered. That's the way I see it, anyway. |

| Flyleaf – All Around Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Who ever said this wasn't about Christ? Wow ... I have to wonder sometimes how many people here actually realize that Flyleaf is an openly Christian band ... and a very passionate one at that. This song might have dual meanings ... I don't know. BUT, I do know that while songs like "I'm So Sick" and others were referred to as the band's first "secular" releases, "All Around Me" has been known since its release as a Christian song ... The implications are clear ... and the ambiguity in this case only clarifies that the song is all about the overwhelming feeling of being in the very Presence of God and feeling Him all around you. Take this song however you wish; it doesn't change in the slightest the reality and the message behind the lyrics and the writer. | |

Very interesting interpretations, all of you. Yes, Flyleaf has already dubbed themselves a Christian band in one of their interviews. As for ambiguity, it's just a way to spread the Message without it being so blatantly stated that it loses appeal it could otherwise hold to someone who needs it ... I admit, though, in my mind, atheism has never quite worked out somehow ... When all things, without exception, are cause and effect, how can someone say humanity lacks a Cause? I'm forced to wonder. I never thought about it being about sex ... promiscuity ... How sad. It's like she left a piece of herself with someone who didn't even love her. That feeling was meant for good ... How often we twist what God intends for good. Very sad, very beautiful song. |

| Lostprophets – Hello Again Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
A cutter? Why? I've always wondered why someone starts ... Guilt? A lot of people think even St. Paul struggled with severe bodily discipline. That should be enough to prove anyone can struggle with something and not quite understand why it is they can't quit ... Honestly, I'm not sure what this song means to me. I think a new beginning is definitely a theme here, but what the beginning is referring back to (addictions, suicidal thoughts, cutting, or just pain in general), the message is the same: Confront your past and begin anew ... Pretty profound in my eyes. |

| Lostprophets – Everyday Combat Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Hmm ... the whole Korea thing is interesting. But I think it is comparing this lifestyle to a war-- everyday combat. It's as if he's saying, the world will let you do XY, and Z, but that doesn't make it right and I'm out. I like it. These guys (at least I think most, if not all) are Christians, as well as being Straight Edge. It's all about a lifestyle and the difficulties associated with choosing one such as this. | |
| Lostprophets – Rooftops Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I have to admit, it wasn't until I saw the video to go with this song I began to appreciate it so much. I love it! It's about self expression ... not being afraid to let it all out. If you've seen the video, it has a lot to do with the hypocrisy of this world--the "Everything's Okay Face"--and I think that resonates greatly, too. Think about it: everything's not okay ... not even close. Why pretend it is when you have all this hurt inside? Let it out ... proclaim it. That's what I got out of it. | |
