I can see why people think the song is about blowjobs. When I heard it without really listening to ALL the lyrics, the possible sexual innuendo stood out to me. But it really does seem to be about religious experience. Either directly about God, or about someone she loves (in a platonic or romantic way) that makes her feel safe and awed in a way that is almost like a religious experience. It's a gorgeous song, too. Probably my favorite Madonna song, and that's saying a lot. |

The lyrics do seem to be about unrequited love. What is interesting in that in the music video, I got the sense that it was more about censorship, or about backlash from the media about Madonna's sexual image. |
