This song is about embarassment. As a child abnormalities are magnified, you want to fit in with the crowd. Not stand out. The boys hair was white. How many kids in his class have white hair? He stood out like a sour thumb. The girl didnt want to change in front of anyone because she was self concious of her birthmarks and when she was forced to and everyone saw them, what she was afraid would happen, did happen. They were all fascinated and wanted to know what they were. Making her the center of attention. again feeling embarassed. The third kid is embarassed because of his parents and their religious fanaticism. They wouldnt let the kid play with anyone, and all the kids knew he couldnt, (why they were glad they werent him), He was embarassed about church because word got around about what they did in there. He was viewed as weird, again embarassed because of his home life. As far as the forgotten verse fitting into this theme, maybe he told the kids at school about what he was bringing in, then he found out his mom had thrown them out. So he would then have to face all the kids in his class and explain why he didnt have his tonsils to show everyone. Which could be embarassing. The songs theme is about being the center of attention, and having to explain yourself. When the cars smashed so hard, theyd always just been there, and theyd always just gone there. |
