After hearing alot of modest mouse songs talking about ice or cold or cold places I have a theory. So being in a cold place or feeling cold is like being depressed. It seems like all the songs that he says something about being cold or going to a cold place are sad songs like break up songs and what not. This song says I stepped down as president of Antarctica. I think that means that he felt so sad and depressed that he felt like the king of Antarctica and going by the cold theory that means like the most depressed person ever. By saying I stepped down its like saying I'm not going to feel like that anymore. Like fuck this cold place I'm leaving and I'm going to feel normal again. Thats why this song os great its saying that no matter how bad it gets you can always just step down and feel good again. |
