I just wanted to let you know that the third verse is incorrect on line 3. You say, "She wasn't built to travel at speed or through mud slides." It actually says "She wasn't built to travel at THE SPEED A RUMOR FLIES." and "the wheels are bound to jump the track before they burn the ties." |

| I don't know who's crazy. Syd or the guy that posted last. I think you're reading into it a wee bit too much. | |
| Syd Barrett – Baby Lemonade Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think that baby lemonade is actually just the sun. Rain falls in gray far away Please, please Baby Lemonade (the sun). I think he's just saying that he wishes the sun would come and make a bright day out of a cold gray one. There is some other points in the song about early Floyd. The part about the clock is a reference to an old floyd tune. |

I think I know what this song is about, especially considering the Floyd's past record of writing songs about their late leader, Roger BARRETT. The song also has some double meanings in it as well. Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young In a world of magnets and miracles Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary The ringing of the division bell had begun This part is about them dreaming of being rock stars and the whole early days of the Abadabs, The Megadeths and then Pink Floyd (Those were the earlier band names). Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway Do they still meet there by the Cut This part is about a spot in England where Syd and David and maybe some of the others hung out when they were young. Gilmour and Barrett were childhood friends. There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps Running before time took our dreams away Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground To a life consumed by slow decay I think this is kind of like a mirror image of them if they hadn't ever become huge. If the events that almost tore them apart would have. It's like he's seeing it all over again in a different light. The 'small creatures' are the hangers-on and people that tried to get in between the band and who did get to Syd and fucked up his idea of himself. Those people would have loved to see them fail and become shadows of themselves. Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again Dragged by the force of some inner tide Burning Bridges was an old floyd song off Obscured by Clouds. The first line reflects that. It was a time they felt like they were moving on from Syd's shadow but also that they just couldn't shake his presence, no matter how badly they just wanted to move on. Encumbered forever by desire and ambition There's a hunger still unsatisfied Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon Though down this road we've been so many times This last part is ambiguous. I think that over the years they really felt bad about Syd and dreamt of him coming back together and joining them. They were friends for many years and they missed him and always wondered what they could have achieved if would have been part of the band. It's incredible if you think about it. Syd was a natural songwriter. If he could have kept his shit together who knows what kind of stuff Floyd would have put out....or not put out. I loved Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. Syd looms large in both compositions. Would they have ever put those out if he had stayed. Would they have put out something better???? Who knows, I think that's what the song is about. |
