After seeing the lyrics to some of these songs, I was a bit skeptical, but I decided to check out three Cannibal Corpse songs: Hammer Smashed Face, Shredded Humans (because that song has the most disgusting lyrics I've ever seen) and I Cum Blood. Let me confirm this to all of you who haven't heard Cannibal Corpse; this band does, in fact, suck. Really, this is generic Nu-Metal at it's worst. The band sounds even worse live; the lead singer doesn't even say the lyrics, he just screams "mumma mumma mumma mumma mumma" for about four long minutes. Has anyone seen Me, Myself & Irene? Remember the part where Hank was singing to that Heavy Metal? Cannibal Corpse sounds A LOT like that. generic nu-metal? are you serious? go kill yourself right now. please do the world a favor. |

While I do believe that there are a few people who like this band because they demonstrate a level of speed and technique, unseen, within the realms of commercial rock, the fact remains, that there are about a billion (give or take a few) different thrash or death metal bands, who have surpassed Cannibal Corpse to the extent that, aside from the nostalgic appeal, they serve only as a reminder of what was once considered extreme and offensive(Necropedophile , entrails ripped from a virgins cunt), but only to the extent that a joke about Gary Glitter and a few 12 year olds, still occasionally raises a dissaproving eyebrow and is then forgotten about within seconds. The fact remains, Slayer were basically the precursors and Death made the final step from straight up thrash, to death metal, Cannibal Corpse were neither the pioneers of death metal nor were they instrumental in its progression in fact, I would go so far as to argue that the needlessly gory lyrics were detremental to its development, serving only to provide its critics with proof that death metal was simply a bunch of mindless rejects, deriving shits and giggles from murder fantasies, or employing shock tactics, to hide a lack of substance, negating any respect that the works of bands such as Nuclear Death, Dismember, Dying Fetus, Nile and Decapitated should have wrought and instead, reducing the scene to the Metal equivelent of the B-movie, attracting, for the most part, kids who mutilate themselves, because the scar tissue looks cool against their make-up or people seeking a backdoor into the extreme metal circle. quiffporn you do realize that cannibal corpse predates all of those bands you listed besides nuclear death right? and who cares about the lyrics? nobody really listens to death metal for the vocals anyways. it's all about the shredding. No dude, Cannibal Corpse is the sum of its parts, one of those parts being piss poor lyrics, delivered by a guy who sounds like he is shouting with a paper bag on his head... most death metal vocalists sound like they're shouting with a paper bag on there head. and the production values on CC album's have never been very top notch. your getting a death metal album not a britney spears album. and lyrics should be about death and gore. |
