This song is soooo beautiful, I heard it in a play-type thing and fell in love with it, so i bought the cd (true) and it is one of the coolest cds. Trinty Roots are a New Zealand band but they should be international. I think the song's about how doing seemingly unimportant things for someone can really help them out, they matter, and you never know what someones really going through, different things effect people in different ways. |

about that erinsemotears hat commented about 2 years ago and said that she/he didnt like the song as much as he/she could because it had been on the oc, and evryone started bad-mouthing him/her, well i sort of agree, not in such a radical way.. i wont start bitching about a song or artist because they are now popular, i'll still like them, but it sort of makes me sad when a sort of under-the-radar band suddenly gets noticed and gets really popular, because it suddenlt becomes less personal, like they used to be just your friends, but now that theyre famous they've forgotten about you, i find that really sad. I like it when the band's less popular because they stay mine. (And everyone else's who wants them not because theyr popular, but because they rock!)
Anyway... enough of that rant. I love this song and the dandy warhols. This is a song that everyone can relate to. It Rocks. |

iiiiiiiiiii rekon that its about a guy, whos not a loser but hes not one of the 'cool' guys, he's the type of guy who doesnt actually give a fuck what anyone else thinks and he sees a girl and he just knows that somethings gonna happen with him and her, he smells "sex and candy" because y'know when a guy goes to pick up a girl or when he wants to be forgiven by a girl they buy her flowers and candy (on movies anyway) and the sex part is because he predicts that they are going to get together and have sex. :D
Aaaaalso i rekon that coz there are 2 different scenerios -- when he sees someone who's "like double cherry pie" and "disco superfly" and then the other time its when there's someone in "platform double suede" and is "like disco lemonade" so i think that it's 2 different girls hes talking about. At the very start he just got dumped, then he finds another girl and gets with her, and he gets "devious stares" in his direction because hes being slutty.... theeeeen that girls gone and after that he finds a new girl. And the process goes on and on until he gets aids.
Long explanation. may not actually make sense but it does in my head!
This song would be so much cooler if it wasn't so cool. |

I love the start of this song (i love the whole sog but the start in particular) the silence and then the guitar starts and i can just hear the croud screaming and cheering, i wish i could go to a foo's concert, i think it would be truely incredible. ROCK ON!!!!! |

I don't think it's about drugs at all, I think the line "swallowing class to stay pure" just means that he's doing all he thinks she wants to get her back, to stay 'acceptable'. I just don't think that Costa's the druggish type. Maybe. But everyone's entitled to their own opinion, everyone's free to interpret it in their own way :D

i agree with delhess, it's all relative, and it means whatever we feel it means. Bono would've had his own reason for writing this (frikken amazing- by the way) song, but i also rekon that it was meant to be understood in different ways by different people for whatever reason. I love that about U2 songs, because theyre so amiguous, people can interpret them in their own way, so theyre more powerful. Another thing I love about U2 songs is that theyre not all about relationships, practically all of the crap that the radio is spewing out is about love, not even love, just sex. But what would i know? |

I think "She will suffer the needle chill" maybe means that she suffers the icy cold needle to get what she needs- she'll go through pain just to feel better for however long the drugs last, but in the end it's the drugs and the addiction that's causing the pain. |

I love this song, it's so beautiful. I think it's about thinking you want something, or know it or love it, but you really don't. Mostly I think it's about wanting. A parter, job, future, life. But in the end all he really wants is the person he's singing it to. It's romantic and poetic. |
