| Keane – Put It Behind You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Normally I wouldn't know, but it was on the Keane DVD that Tim Rice-Oxely wrote it for Richard Hughes' nasty break up of 7 years... (key-boardist wrote it for the drummer) | |
| Keane – The Way You Want It Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Yeah, I would agree... It really describes someone that I know. I always thought it was about this guy who knew this girl liked him... and he wronged her in some way. Still, he can't get her off his mind. She no lonegr likes him, she is mad and hurt. He can't stop thinking about her... and yet "even though you've waited so long to see the day when she will turn to you again... so long my friend is what you'll say" The title, "the way you want it to" can apply to the pain that this guy feels... it hurts... the way he wants it to. He's not in love with her but in love with the guilt that she made him feel. "And I don't know why you feel so bad. Where is the life you once had? And still this horrid feeling grows and grows the way you want it to?" I think he may have a past of being emotionally void an no one made him feel bad for what he had done... except her. |

He is in love with this woman... and she wants to leave. "If you want to run away, I'll take back all that I'll say." He's taken a long time to open up but he finally is ready and she is ready to leave he's threatening if she leaves he will take it all back like it never happened. He might even be realizing how vain he had been... "I am the only one that I care about." "And you are the one for me, always the one" he's realizing what he'd taken for granted and what he is about to lose. He tries to place the blame on her "She was always the one to go running around in another land." "I saw the full moon sinking" could represent her... dissapearing over the horizon. |

| Keane – Closer Now Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Ohhhh, this song... good stuff. I think it's about loving someone from a far. He is confused and frustrated... I won't go on Believing, believing I believe You might stumble and come closer now Basically, he's hanging onto this little hope that the person he loves might just stumble (break up with her current boyfriend) and suddenly... fall in love with him. "I believe you might turn from your love." "If I stay here I'm alone If I go then it will mean Waiting on my own It's the pattern of my life When you care and you cannot feel When you know that it's for real You just leave me on my own To live the pattern of my life" The girl knows how he feels and still does not go with him... she knows his love is real but she can't feel it. Very sad song, but lovely... exactly why I love Keane. |

"Bedshaped" Which I believe it was released in a variety of singles depending on where you live. Love the sound of this song though, really laid back. Basically it's probably about someone that is down and out. They were rejected by a loved one... and it's been a long time since it happened but "you're still the one that's troubling me." With the simple thoughts of a child I say what I think and I need to be loved But I guess that's not your style I think that sums it up. Great song. |

| Keane – He Used To Be A Lovely Boy Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Hmmm, I personally like to apply most songs to a broader scope... Tim is very talented in that way. He can write songs that are so specific and yet broad enough to apply to many situations. I think it's about a love based relationship that failed. It's urging this guy to move on and let go of his old life... "time to wake up and look around." It's about clinging onto the past and a hopeless relationship. "He used to be a lovely boy" before... things went badly... She perhaps though he was just a hopeless dreamer and gave up on him. "Find a place where you can hide from the love that holds you inside... time's so unkind" meaning it's time to put away those feelings... though it may take a long time. I love the line "Time on your hands, world at your feet... no adventure left incomplete." -Lovelllly song |

| Keane – Emily Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think that he cheated on her. He's looking back on the relationship after it has ended and he's feeling lost... just crashing around. He misses Emily, who he may have cheated on and she found out. He thinks she may as well have never known because he never cared for the other person "I mean you never really lost the part." the part= love of his life. | |

Love this song, I've related to it many a time. It's about when you really get fixated on a person and you really have feelings for them and they confuse you or say something hurtful and that momnt that you have the realization that you are putting yourself through so much more strain than you need to be. "Getting hung up about the things you say.. When I open my eyes and it's a lovely day!" Eventually you realize that this person is just looking for someone who will understand them and has nothing to offer you... you realize that you have to end it. "We love to think about the way things were... But the time has come and I'm glad it's over." |

| Keane – She Opens Her Eyes Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I LOVE this song. It's probably about a guy that is telling his friend that he is wasting his time with this girl. His friend is in denial and accuses the singer of "never being on his side." when in truth he is just trying to be helpful and helping his friend see that this girl will always take him for granted and to wait for her to stop taking him for granted... could take "your whole life, for her to open her eyes" and yes... the La la la la... is really beautiful. |

| Keane – Wolf at the Door Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Well, I know that Tom Chaplin and the band really idolize Radiohead. I think I saw or read an interview somewhere and Tom said "OK Computer" was one of his favorite albums of all time. So, it's possible that this song was tribute to Radiohead... But also, this is one of my favorite Keane songs because it's meaning can be so loose and applied to many things. For me, it's about someone who is falling in love with a dangerous person. "Wide-eyed, every tale is taller than the one before. Inside out and upside down." This person is someone who tealls lies and will do anything they can to get what they want out of you. They are cunning... like a wolf. "Don't make a sound, the wolf's at the door and all your streetfighting years... won't help you anymore." It's like a warning song that this person is not to be trusted and no matter what you do, you will be suseptable to their charm.... you simply can trust what they say or who they are... |

| The Postal Service – The District Sleeps Alone Tonight Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Hmmm, this song is lovely... very complicated. I think it's about a relationship. It begins just after someone broke up with the singer (she was crying "smeared black ink") he was caught off gaurd, realizing how he had hurt this person and yet feels no regret "I am bearly listening"... and how he is happy to remain an un-perminent part in this person's life... and how this hurt her so badly. "I am finally seeing why I was the one worth leaving." The door key thing might be him going up to take his belongings out of the the apartment and it ultimately ends where he is out on his own again... lonely. Turning to drink? Basically realizing how he has wronged her and why she is better off without him. | |

I really don't think this song is meant to be ripping on Tom... but I would agree that it is about someone with some kind of addiction/serious vice... "Many's the time I ran with you down The rainy roads of our old town Many the lives we lived in each day And buried altogether" It's gotta be about someone who had a friend or even a lover who they used to be very close with... maybe even grew up together and then the one falls into vice dependence and the lover/friend leaves them... "I know you think I'm holding you down And I've fallen by the wayside now And I don't understand the same things as you But I do Don't laugh at me Don't look away" It is definentally about the singer's longing for the person who left them to come back... and for them to reunite. They have delusions of how this person will come back and then life will be great "and up we'll go in white light." But he knows in the back of his mind... that the person they are singing about is never coming back. I'd like to think (in a ver tragic way) it was a love story, but it could be friendship oriented. Anyway, Tim is very talented with words and music. No matter what, I think everyone can relate to Keane's music... Tom' voice and stage presnce is so powerful... as is this song, so it's no surprise that they play it at the end of most performances. |
