ya i had a feeling masturbation could be incorporated into the whole "astro" idea too. i think its about things you do in private that you dont want anyone to know about, not necessarily that make you happy.... like it could be anything, even things that are bad, just anything you might be ashamed of. and the idea of saying, hey maybe other people have secrets too, and its not all so bad. im just saying this because jack has explained the meaning of astro a little bit (which i think a lot of people here have read).... otherwise i would have thought it was a dance lol! |

| im thinking its about a dream.... or a nightmare rather. the part where hes on the floor and cant move might be when he wakes up from it.... or maybe its still part of the dream. | |
| The White Stripes – A Boy's Best Friend Lyrics | 19 years ago |

i think its about moving on from a phase in life... where he is right now just isnt working for him (the place, the people). he needs to get out but it also seems like hes in no rush, just depressed. hes not contemplating on leaving, he has already made up his mind "My mind's already out of here" so its a song about waiting around for whenever hes going to get up and leave. also when he says wont you come along dear? it seems like he is speaking to a girlfriend and saying that they can both move on together, but that maybe he really doesnt want her to, hes just saying it to be nice... or maybe that she isnt wanting to go and isnt paying attention to his question. because its such a little part of the song and the question is never resolved. and at the end he realizes that his only friends are his dogs and cigarettes, thats what can make him happy until he gets away. i LOOOVE this song, i actually made a poster for my friend with some of these lyrics becasue her dog really is her only good friend (well, besides me i guess!)... and the music is so sad. |

| The White Stripes – Ball and Biscuit Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
wow, before reading everyones comments i had a completely different idea about his song.... i thought it was about a girl cheating on him, like hes her third man (willie mctell reference?)... and the whole song is an argument between them when he found out. and when he says lets have a ball and a biscuit, take our sweet little time about it, hes teasing her about what she could have had with him, but now hes going to leave her. and the read it in the newspaper part, ask your girlfriend and see if she knows might be him saying that he was the last one to find out about it, and everybody else knew that his girlfriend was cheating on him, except him. hes saying that he cant really help it if hes her third man, but it is a sure fact and it will never change that he is his mothers 7th son. he is gaining his dignity back when saying that its just these other two random guys who made him the third man, but his mother was the only one who could make him the 7th son. at the end hes showing the girl that he has his respect back. the only reason i thought the "third man" part was about cheating was because jack is a fan of blind willie mctell, and mctell has lyrics that he incorporates into some of his songs about him having 3 women... and teh WS do a lot of live covers with those lyrics too. but after reading the other commetns i listened to it again with the sex theme in mind.... and yeah, it could all be about sex too. |
