| Art Garfunkel – Disney Girls Lyrics

The song describes a man yearning ("But fantasy world and Disney girls, I'm coming back") for simpler times in small-town America ("1957" is mentioned in the title), with old-fashioned life and values. Bruce Johnson wrote this song in 1971, when America was experiencing rapid changes like sexual revolution, rise of feminist movement, hippie counter-culture, and maybe he yearned for life and values from way back in the 1950s. |

The song seems to describe a man's (maybe even Bruce Johnson's) yearning ("Oh, fantasy world, Disney girls, I'm coming back") for simpler, older small-town life and values (1957). The word "reality" in the song may be a reference to the early 70s (when the song was released), and America's issues at that time: Vietnam War, rise of feminism, sexual revolution, drugs, hippie movement, etc. |

Thanks for the lyrics to this beautiful song. I love the melody of this haunting, almost mystical song. Although the meaning is obvious (the rover theme typical of many '70's songs), the lines "One night of love beside a strange young smile" is perplexing. The guitar solo is very engaging. This song should have been a hit. |

The concept album "Sgt Pepper's" dealt with contemporary, urban problems. In this way, I'd go with Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, with its psychedelic lyrics, talking about LSD |

I always thought this was a protest song about the environment, especially the part "there were plants and birds and rocks and things, there were sand and hlls and rain, the ocean is a desert with its life underground and a perfect disguise above, under the cities, lies a heart made of ground, BUT THE HUMANS WOULD GIVE NO LOVE" |

I think the line "we play games of magic all the while" talks about sex. Note also the metaphor in the line "rain clouds are chasing the light, they play games of magic". It talks about a sexually insecure man who moves from one woman to another... |
