I agree that it is a mothr talking to her son but after her has been born. Its a beautiful song. I think shes telling him that he is the best thing that has ever happened to her. *Sent out the morning birds To sing of the damage Now that the calm's returned I know I can't manage* After she comes home with him she realises that she is scared of being a mother and doesnt think she can do it on her own. *You're standing in my doorway Though he's asleep in my bed The steady murmur Always in my head* The you is the father and the he is the son. It seems like they are the same person in the song but I think its because they are alike. *You're the finest thing that I've done The hurricane I'll never outrun I could wait around for the dust to still But I don't believe that it ever will* Telling her son that he is the best thing that she has ever done or that has ever happened to her. *You're standing in my doorway Seven cities ago The days are racing But you come back too slow* Recalling the last time she saw the father or the first time she met him. It is my favourite song from the new album and might become my all time favourite. It is amazing! Hurricane is the new lighthouse... |

you're right about her voice. and the guys too. this version sounds really awful. i heard they recorded it in a garage. but i like it. it gave me encouragement to know that they arnt perfect (that isnt meant to be mean or anything). but it means there is hope for the rest of us who are still trying to struggle in the music industry and stuff. but apart from this song they are an amazing fabulous creative absolutly fantastic band!!! hehe :) |

this song is very beautiful. it is very sad and also very powerful. i am very confused about it, and after reading what everyone else has to say i am not sure wether i am more or less confused. i agree with some people that it might be about a teenage girl dying in hospital. but some bits dont fit with that idea. it could also be about someone who has been raped or molested but again some bits dont fit with that idea either. Your heartbeat is pulsing at night in your chest It's gold and it's glowing with all the life you have left I received your words from hospitals Where you felt alone seems to fit with the hospotal idea really well. i really like 'glowing wiht all the life you have left' and it could mean all the life that the person is yet to live but never will. Eyes like sea glass, so weathered and worn From all they've seen of adolescence torn The lovers who have tainted you They pulled you into the night They touched your skin with velvet gloves And made you feel alive fits with the assault idea because 'adolescence torn' could mean the teen years that have been destroyed by the act. but if it is about that the assault would have to have been by someone that th eperson knew or trusted because it says 'lovers who have tainted you'. They pulled you into the night They touched your skin with velvet gloves And made you feel alive also fit sinto the hospital idea. i can see that angels or something puled the dying person into the night (death) and made them feel alive again after so much time of living but feeling dead. im not sure if that makes sense but it might to anyone who has suffered a life threatening illness. that about it from me. if this song is written about the same person from a dark congregation. |

i agree that the start part is about a relationship. but i love the more upbeat part at the end. its fantastic! it really intrigues me, as so many of thier songs do. they could be about anything. i think that last part might have a more global message. maybe about how the world seems ot be ending, how we are destroying it. i dont know, thats just my thoughts.... |
