Iron & Wine – House by the Sea Lyrics 17 years ago
To me, this the "jealous sisters" are sirens, given that they live by the sea and seem to be tempting the singer. Around the "house by the sea" there are beautiful nectars and the temptation of smoking. They've been changing the sound of his name, calling him by repeating his name slowly as if to say "come here." He's torn between giving in to their temptation, "swimming to them in my sleep," and resisting it, "sparing my neck from their chain."

Barenaked Ladies – Half a Heart Lyrics 19 years ago
Ed Robertson was rumored to be having an affair a while back, and I think that is what this song is about. He knows no one should feel sorry for him, but hopes that someone can save him from all of the guilt.

The beginning of the song suggests that he was caught by news reporters/tabloids with another woman, and his wife found out through that. He goes on to say, "flashing lights couldn't warn her/paint myself in a corner."

I just love the line, "Before they ever let the other half find out."

Barenaked Ladies – Angry People Lyrics 19 years ago
When BNL first launched their Blog (bnlblog.com) Steven Page got a lot of criticism from fans for talking about politics too much. Also, their album Everything to Everyone contained a lot of political content and was pretty much a flop.

In my opinion, the "angry people" in this song are people who like to talk politics, specifically the band, and how apathetic people just don't want to bother. The bridge especially expresses, "I am the singer in the band/We're only trying to lend a hand." Steve Page doesn't like that people criticize is desire to discuss politics.
