| The Knife – You Take My Breath Away Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think the main chorus signifies being in love. "We are the people who's come here to play I don't like it easy I don't like it the straight way we're in the middle of something we are here to stay and we raise our heads for the colour red" If I may translate: Love (we) has come into her heart. Love isn't easy or simple. Once in love, always in love (here to stay). Red is the color of passion. The rest is pretty straight forward: She saw him (I'm just assuming it's a male) and fell in love with him at a show. This can also be symbolic though. "I'm in the first row on your show" could simply mean she's the person most interested in him. She then talks about how he affects her with his talking and songs. The last part I believe she is talking about how now she sees there is something more in sex or relationships in general. "I knew I knew that there was something I missed I was fifteen when I first got kissed before I knew about the equality way" She "knew" something was missing, but now she's found it. |

| The White Stripes – I Can't Wait Lyrics | 16 years ago |

These lyrics are wrong; some stuff is left out: I can't wait till you try to come back girl When things they don't work out for you (Chorus) Who do you think you 're messing with girl What do you think you're trying to do? Do you really think I wanna be left out girl Who do you think you're trying to fool First you said I was blind And it's gonna be different this time. I thought you made up your mind I thought you made up your mind I thought you made up I thought you made up I thought you made up your mind So many times I've gotten used to this this old idea of being all alone tell me how I'm supposed to get through with this? I wish this house felt like a home (Chorus) Who do you think you 're messing with girl What do you think you're trying to do? Do you really think I wanna be left out girl Who do you think you're trying to fool First you said I was blind You've certainly took your time I thought you made up your mind I thought you made up your mind I thought you made up I thought you made up I thought you made up your mind |

| Lady GaGa – Poker Face Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think you're all wrong. I think it's about her trying to hide her true feelings of wanting someone but is basically playing hard-to-get. The fact that she says "baby stay with me" in the beginning leads me to believe she doesn't want to just f*ck them and leave them. She wants one man in particular to have and stay with. "Love game, intuition, play the cards with spades to start." She wants to pretend she doesn't like him at first. "And after he's been hooked I'll play the one that's on his heart." After gaining his interest with hard-to-get she'll have already won his heart. She doesn't want to hurt him, she wants to hold him "like they do in Texas." "And baby when it's love if it's not rough it isn't fun." She's in love!!! Or do I need more evidence?: "I won't tell you that I love you". And why won't she tell him that she loves him? No, it's not because she doesn't, it's "'cause I'm bluffin'." She even says herself: "I'm not lyin'. I'm just stunnin' with my love glue gun." So she's not telling him she loves him at first and breaking his heart after, she's trying to win his heart by hiding her feelings--pretending she doesn't love him--and playing hard-to-get. Last important lines: "I promise this, promise this... Check this hand 'cause I'm MARVELOUS" Here she's promising that she really does love him, and the appearance that she doesn't love him, is just a poker face. She's saying at the end that she'd be right for him. She's marvelous, he just doesn't know it yet. Boom. :P |

| Ladyhawke – Paris Is Burning Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
The phrase, "Paris is burning" comes from when Hitler asked one of his military men "is Paris burning?" to find out whether or not they had conquered Paris. Paris burning can then be taken to mean war. The line in which she asks "is it love or just Paris?" is probably one of the most important lines in this song. Paris, "screaming" with "madness", is her mind, in which a war is being waged. She's confused and struggling. Therefore, "is it love or just Paris?" translates to "is it love or just desperation?" "My heart is yearning, but Paris is burning" = "my heart is yearning but I'm also scared" She's not sure whether what she's feeling is real or if it's just circumstantial. Pretty nice metaphor I think--it's a well written song. As for the interviews in which she talked about "one crazy weekend that she had in Paris where she got way too wasted and just partied the entire time", I have not seen them, but I don't think she means to say that is what this song is about. If anything, it was just her inspiration for writing the song this way. (Besides, I've noticed artists sometimes lie about what their songs really mean. Who wants to harsh the vibe by telling the serious truth to the camera and interviewer?) |

| Universal Hall Pass – Cave Radio Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This seems almost like some ritualistic event, where Sally "floats from the bed" and into the cave in which "there's a strange device" "exchanging...signals with the deep." "As above is so below" seems quite important. It seems to me like when Sally sings in this cave it echos through the water (reflecting pool) in the cave and somehow perhaps allows them to communicate with the sun god through their "cave radio". I'm still not sure though. Any other thoughts? |

| Universal Hall Pass – Sally's Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Inti of the Incas is the Sun god of the Incas and is also seen as the agricultural god (so if you please him he'll give you a good harvest). When she says he's "on a loop" I figure it means he's spinning around our earth (remember people back then thought everything revolved around the earth, and it looks that way too), making it day and night. It seems like they want Sally to sing so that the sun (Inti) will go down during the night. She has a special power, "little knwon to some", that when she sings she can control the sun. (?) |

| Blonde Redhead – Anticipation Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I love the tune of the guitar and how she sounds when she says anticipate in the beginning. It's just so beautiful. I like the little keyboard tunes in the background too (gives that "starry" sound) | |
| Frou Frou – Flicks Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I really like delial's interpretation. :) The music has a very repetitive and quick tune (and percussion) which I think is perfect; if one could hear what replaying memories sounds like, this is how it might sound. I'm not sure where "life flashing before your eyes before you die" came from, but I can hear that in the music as well. The sound is reminiscent of a train coming to hit you. |

| Frou Frou – Maddening Shroud Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Well, I'm just going to tell you how I feel and what I think when I listen to this song. In the first two paragraphs she is saying how having love for this person hurts her and drives her insane, and she therefore often feels like she wants to just stop trying to win over this person and just "throw it all away" because it's not worth the pain she feels from this unobtainable love. As for: "Sometimes I like to get away from the saddening crowd Sometimes I feel my life is all in vain" I often feel like the only thing worth anything in my life is my love for Rose, assuming the singer feels the same way about her beloved, she is saying how she feels like her love is useless, in vain, and therefore her life is in vain. She just wants to get away from the sadness and pain, and therefore her love, and therefore her life. "Some days my strength walks out Some days I can't go out" Some days she gets so unbearably depressed that she just can't go out or do anything. The last part though seems strange to me--maybe a little tacked on: "We can walk about We can work it over and over and over" I think she means that she can work it out with her beloved and somehow win him over if only they communicated about it and walked with each other. Yet this expresses a somewhat different feeling. The whole song seems pretty hopeless until these two lines, but then she goes back to hopelessness in the last line. Nevertheless, I can still identify. |
