Are we sure the last line isn't "We'll be back? What a crack." - That always made more sense to me but maybe I'm missing something. |

To me, the song is about he and his cousins being molested and sexually abused by his uncle (their father,) who is someone who runs around spouting about his own morals and how he is greater than other men (a preacher.) And the song is about how at first, having this happen and seeing it happen tore him apart and led him to self-harming but as he realised his world was crashing down, while the man who did it and should be punished didn't even really give a crap that he had done it was perfectly fine and it wasn't worth hurting himself over it. So he let it go, and he's proud of himself for moving on and not letting his Uncle completely tear him down. |

I thought it was kind of a song about the Columbine shooting. Taking them down one by one, and taking the big kings down both echo that, plus toasting/celebrating their own death. Imagining that it will cause a change forever, resulting in the 'seasons,' or that it rips through everyone's perfect lives (the silence) trying to say something also kind of fits to me. Plus - 'Elephant' is also a film loosely based on Columbine. I could be totally off, that's just the feel I got. |
