"Kay" is Kayla DuPree, and "And you can't blame your mother, She's trying not to say I was the worst mistake" is about Chauntelle DuPree, who is the mother of Kayla and who had her at 18/19. but a lot of this song is about the DuPrees, however it's the whole hangman and daughters weren't careful part seems to be about Boyd DuPree. Basically, I think it's to Kayla DuPree who he obviously can't see anymore because he and Sherri DuPree are no longer together, so he can't tell her any of this so she won't know. |

| The last part is about Sherri DuPree. The original lyrics were hinted more toward her but although the lyrics are different now, the last part is definitely about her. There is a rumor that Jesse wanted to propose which is a big theme on the album (supposedly. Look in Sowing Season "I am not your friend, not your lover, not your family, etc" and "You say you're my friend, but why won't you be my family?" in Not the Sun), but never had the chance due to their breakup and her sudden engagement to Chad Gilbert of NFG. So, I still definitely believe the last part is about her. | |
