| Yeah, she's a poser. She's sold as a punk rocker, when the punkest thing about her is her obscene amount of eyeliner. If you think she's some badass she-rocker sticking it to the boys, learn a bit about music history. Real music in the punk genre is loud and bold, and actually has messages bigger than "this boy broke my heart!!" Please. If you want to look at women in music who have made their own style and shaped the genre, look at the Riot Grrls, like Bikini Kill and Bratmobile. I know directing Avril fans to bands like these are completely futile, but they were being punk girls when it was unheard of. Avril owes everything to those ladies, and by marketing a cruel imitation of them makes me want to throw up. And before you say I know nothing about her and her music, I was dragged to one of her shows and heard every single one of her goddamn faux-punk bubblegum pop songs that played incessantly on the radio. | I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. This is another example of the utter shit that is what girls/women are doing in music today. It's unfortunate that songs like these and musicians (and I use that term generously) like Avril are supposed to be "empowering" and all about "girl power" and all of that, and that I am expected to believe that Avril Lavigne is a role model. At least now she isn't pretending to be some punk or a riot grrrl. If you actually want music that challenging and more than just something to fill your head, look around, it is out there.
