well when I listen to this, I imagine Elliott talking to this "coma kid" about how he was on this guys drug and following him all about, untill he quit, or "kicked in reverse" because he was "driven by a curse" or addiction. So the coma kid stopped taking the drug after being probably put into a coma. I think "I made up my mind I dont mind saying so" is saying that even though this kid was really messed up on the drug, Elliott will still continue to abuse it. So he walks around trying to find this guy much like the "coma kid" did. He writes "seems I never get your kick quite right" I think he's on a drug but its not the drug he wants as he's looking for this man. Much like when he says "walking slow to a dirty dive" It makes me think hes currently 'using' but this one drug he wants will make him dive into nothingness, basically speaking. I guess at the end of the song, he gets his drug, falls over from the strength of it, saying "i feel fine. man, I feel fine." |

theres a lot of mistakes in whomever posted these lyrics... anywho. Elliott was always ALWAYS getting into bar fights, thats why sometimes in some of his pictures he'd look a lil beat up. though I'm sure he got some punches in ;) Its obvious to me that he's in some bar tryin to keep to himself and this "crazy fucker from the south" is being rowdy and making all kinds of racket. so elliotts "tryin to insult some crazy fucker" then saying "who's arrow comes to pick me out" definitly saying that the kid wants to fight and hit him possibly the "waiting for a shot of white nose" or it could be a drink, not sure. and about the "already full of useless stories" I'm not too sure about. it could be his usual self pity talking. |

| Elliott Smith – Hangin Out with Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |

this song is about him being probably in a bar, or some kind of public place. "they come here alone and they leave in twos except for you and me who just come to use" he's saying he comes here to "use" which means probably heroin or coke. "if you're all done like you said you'd been what are you doin' hanging out with me? i haven't wanted to do anything for a long time but whatever you got right now, would probably suit me fine" as you can tell, he's probably just using this person for the drugs and seems a little bothered that the person hangs around with him. The gentleness in his voice kinda tells me its a female. |

Well, I happen to agree with all of you, its about innocent love with a dash of anxiety and insecurity. someone above said that "come inside its okay, and I'll shake you" meant he was talking about losing virginity. I disagree, I imagine both elliott and this girl sitting outside her house and her father brings her inside, but leaves elliott outside and "shakes" her telling her to stay away from him, its clear that the father doesn't like Elliott and thinks he's a bad seed. "won't you tell your dad get off my back." and "would you be an outlaw for my love" probably her dad telling her she cant see him anymore. |
