I think he's talking a lot about the birth and evolution of hip-hop...a lot of P-Funk references are made. ("The development of Parliament. The phallic bop gun. Thus, the mother-ship connection spawned the birth of the drum.") and Saul even says in the interview that they were listening to a lot of Parliament. |

I think it's about being an outcast and being so fed up with the superficiality of others. "You laugh because I'm different, I laugh because you're all the same." It's a simple idea that hasn't been written about before, but the song still rocks. |

My interpretation of the song is that it's simply about having someone who loves you for who you are, even with major flaws such as depression or addiction. When the disease takes over it makes you a person different from the real you, but if someone truly loves you they can still see the person buried under whatever's taking over their true self. And they'll do what they can to pull you out and not let it get the best of you. |
