The Mountain Goats – Store Lyrics 17 years ago
Incredible song. Wether John wrote this one about one of his own experiences or an experience of one of his characters, I don’t know.
The protagonist was knocked unconscious by some kind of supermarket accident and in those five minutes of ‘lost time’ he sees a heavenly vision of an old friend.
I think the friend he sees is Tracy, who has been previously mentioned in 'Your Belgian Things' as one of the fellow Methamphetamine addicts, also in which it was implied that Tracy committed suicide.
"I saw the mess you left up in the east bedroom, Jesus, what a mess"
I wish I had a number to reach you where you are, it's hard with no one here to help me through it"

The Mountain Goats – I've Got the Sex Lyrics 17 years ago
Straight from the Horses mouth, the amazing Mr John Darinelle speaking about the song at the start of a live recording. (Will’s Pub, Orlando FL, 4.9.03)
"So there you are, in your room. And you're not by yourself all though you feel as though you are. And the same thing is going on in your attendants mind but no one is saying anything about it. Because a lot of people, including the people in this song think
'If I just don't say anything, then magic will happen and everything will change'
Nothing will change, only thing that’s going to happen is that they’re going to fall back into an old behavior pattern and for somewhere between twenty minutes and three hours depending on how much they’ve have had to drink, it’s going to feel really really intense. But afterwards it’s a bad situation.”
