this is the best Lakes song to date! i can't believe no one has commented on this yet. in this song he's confessing that he's learning to let go of things he has no control over in life. so accordingly, he mentions a white flag. a white flag is a symbol of a truce, a ceasefire and surrendering. i like how that became the name of this song. i love the verse starting with "Feed me to the birds if it helps them grow strong" it gives me the impression that he's surrendering to let God take care of things and maybe he's growing in his faith, asking God to use him to help benefit others and help them along in their "wars." |

this song is pretty straightforward. it's about the greedy of the wealthy americans who claim to be christians, but keep their money to themselves and "ignore and neglect the strangers" or poor peoples needs. where's their compassion? not there. |

"Adrift on your ocean floor I feel weightless, numb, and sore" When you're under water just floating around it feels surreal, doesn't it? (Gravity has almost no effect and you can just float 'weightless'ly around, and if the water's cold enough it can 'numb' you.) Well with Jon singing "I still can't believe you're gone" it's still surreal to him that this person's gone . And I think those lines add great imagery and a bit of diversity to the lyrics in this song. |

I have never thought this song had any biblical or christian reference even though I am a christian.. It's just about not letting your anger and your words go too far. Have love and don't get so caught up and mad that you can't say words like 'sorry.' |

i totally agree with you born2xl. ive never thought about it all of those ways. i like those explanations but let me give this certain one another go..if i can get it out right: "my chest is in my head" your chest contains your lungs, your breath, your beating heart..its in his head. he's about to die and there will be no more breath or heart beating so the only life left in him is "in [his] head" or in his mind, in his thoughts. his final thoughts of how he was saving all of the sinners forever. after spilling it out i do like the other explanations better but i just had to think that out ^ take what you want from it. :) |
