If you read & study the books of Carl Jung,Joseph Campbell,Crowly,Israel Regardie,Simon-'gates of the Necronomicon','the Golden Ratio' which gets into PHI aka the Golden Mean aka 'Gods Equation' & DEFINATLY 'The Simulacra & Simulation' it'll shed some light on ALL of Tool's lyrics.And of course the visual art of Alex Grey tends to express visually what Tool gets into musically,lyrically,spiritually-which is essentially we're but consciousness/souls in materla/organic vessels going through the process of Ascension to rejoin the 'SOURCE' from which we all sprang. AGAIN as MAYNARD himself said-he reads some of these interpretations & theyre SO far off,BUT thats ok,As it means something different for everyone depending on the experiences in your life,where you're at in youre life,etc..though this song DOES have spefic references to apiritual alchemy or 'self gnosis'-'let the waters kiss,& transmutate the leaden grudges into gold'.Alchemy was the process of turning lead into gold,but more importantly a 'hidden meaning' for occultist(meaning anyone who perceived 'realities' the 'realm'-king-church or consensus didnt recognize)of turning base man into pure spirit,as tyou would base metals into gold.I knew someone woul;d mention the Kaballah &though SOME of LATERAUS has obvious references to it,theres a site that tries to link every song,every lyric into kabbalistic interpretations... http://www.toolpantheon.com/lateralus_meanings.htm Pretty interesting,again as we all have our own take on TOOL's meanings.They intentionally couch their songs in ambigious metaphors to FORCE you to think,before someone does it FOR you!
