The scarcity of comments on Marillion lyrics may be testament to the fact that they are one of the "industry's best kept secrets", if the word industry is even applicable in their case. A beautiful, epic song with lines that gain extra weight and meaning with every listening. But perhaps the most moving lines are the most direct ones. "Daddy came out the navy and took us away To his dirty grey home town And he worked down on a coal mine for National Service So that he could be around" Everyday heroics, simply but eloquently described in a very touching manner. At the risk of being heretical, I'd say that Hogarth's lyrics outshine even those of Fish. |
