i saw Damien Rice last night in Houston at Verizon Wireless Theater, and this was the final encore that i will never forget as long as i am breathing. he sang it smoking a cigarette, while drinking glasses of wine. he grew progressively 'drunk' with each refill of the glass, and stumbled around stage while singing. of course the intoxication was not real, but it was an unbelievable psuedo-monologue of this song. the whole audience stayed standing and did not move. not a single person. it was fucking transcendent. |

"oh, distance has no way of making love understandable."
i've never thought of this line as meaning they are together but live away from each other. it fits more to me as him meaning they are currently seperated; the whole "maybe we should be on a break" bit..possibly because of his mental state ("..there is something wrong with me.) regardless, this is one of my top five wilco songs. |
