I agree a lot with gahenderson but I think it is reversed. I think she had to leave him to accomplish something in life before dedicating herself to that relationship. The most significant line of the song is, "if i cant have you now, Ill wait dear" He is saying that they just have to have patience to get through this time and he will be there waiting until she is through with what she has to do without him. Its hard on him and at times he doubts it because it is too damn hard to be away from her all of the time while she is out there learning who she really is. Just a thought |

They are at the end of their relationship. She has been unhappy in the relationship for sometime but she didnt want to tell him because she loves him and doesnt want him to be hurt by knowing he is hurting her. They are both just going along with the relationship not recognizing their unhappiness. He notices that there is something wrong and links it to himself. The song is him telling her how he has had his eyes closed and just assumed that she was happy but if she isnt becuase of all of the little things that she is being hurt with, she needs to say something before it comes to an ultimate end. |

Ok, lets give this song a bit more credit. He is singing about how every time he gets into something that is actually good, he feels uneasy and restless and needs to go try to find something else. "when things start to feel right you can count on me to start to doubt it." He got into a relationship with some girl and although she falls in love and there is a lot of potential there, after getting what he wants, being sex, he has the urge to keep moving. He doesnt like how he is like that and it makes him feel guilty. He feels guilty for hurting these girls and it makes him feel bad about himself. This is why he references the devil. He asks God why he is like this, where the hell he is, why cant he keep him in line? If God did his job then everything would just be perfect. But God just left it up to him to fix his own problems. One of these days he will wake up and see what he really needs. |
