I always thought that the narrator is on a ship with his love and that he'd kill the captain if he does any harm to her. These lines create a very, dark but special atmosphere nonetheless – even without getting the meaning.
Maybe the second verse is about how love fades away. Maybe this one is just a simple love song. For sure one of my favourites by Gravenhurst. |

one of my absolute favourites by Magnetic Fields. The vocal melody is just too beautiful and I find myself whistling it all the time. at work, in the kitchen or when walking down the street.
