I agree that this song is most likely about longing for heroin. As mentioned above, he uses the water/heroin analogy in other songs like "Cool Waves," "Lord Let it Rain on Me," "Feeling Just Fine (Head Full of Shit)," etc.
also, the word in the final verse is "bay" rather than "babe." It is much easier to discern on Playing with Fire and in several live versions. |

like basically every other song on From a Basement, this one is about/heavily references heroin.
others have done a good job of interpreting most of the song, but another significant line is "one, two three, four, five, six, seven" which refers to the seven seconds it is supposed to take heroin to hit the brain after injection. |

It's true that JAMC's songs are filled with oral/other sexual references, but I think that interpreting this one in a totally sexual way really cheapens it. I think that more than anything, William uses this song to pretty much state his purpose in making music, with the "Darklands" being his depressed state of mind necessary to write good songs. |
