Pink Floyd finds themselves performing like puppets for the oppressive music industry. The static makes it seem as if they are being played on the radio. The cough and sniff represent them being sick, tired, and broken down from the constant struggle. The struggle is between creating music for the sake of beauty or for financial profit hence "Heaven or hell" "blue skies or pain". In the end they realize they cannot break this struggle and give in to the fascist-like industry. "Wish you were here" is a call to the separation of the band's former self as if the now have no soul. The entire album carries this same theme and is the story of this new band being used by the music industry. |

A great song about unrequited love. You really get the sense that hes singing this on stage alone with nobody in the audience. He seems so frail singing this song, unlike Elvis' usual character. |
