wow, it is cool reading everyones opinions on this song, one thing that i notice is a lot of people seem to take the words and lines too literally, maynard wrights in a way that is open to many different meanings, and sometimes the things he referances are not as literal as they may seem, but are used to take teh meaning and make a very nice picture with the words, i feel the song is simply about a person who is addicted to something, some how becomes purified, and the singer questions the purification and even wonders how he is going to make up for his mistakes while the person was addicted, and well it ends with the halo turning to a noose because it represents that person breaking the purification and falling back to there addictions and old habbits and well it kills him, and well that seems to also connect it with the layne staley story(RIP), or meteforically kills him, and i can see the religious side of the song and the political meaning as well, but because of the addiction theme to 13th step, i get the addition meaning more |

i can see how it can go both ways with the drug addiction an politics, i think actually it is both, it is the government druging you, to go back to sleep, so it blinds you of reality, adn of course i am using druging in a way like hypnotizing or brain washing, druging you with there speaches and tv and exuses, and if you fall victum to the drug, you will go to sleep, like a big government sleeping pill, idk, i just thing that is the meaning because it fits both explaining the drug part to go with the addiction theme of the cd and the political part to fit the hint at the new world order |

wow i have to say first how great of a song this is, simply amazing
well it is about a guy who has to leave his girl, as it is not hard to figure out, but what gets you is how damn sexy the song sounds, it is like you could make love to this song, if you either ignore the lyrics or sleep with someone who does not know english |

it is funny, i always thought this song was an upbeat song, till you read the lyrics, then it is like, ooohh, lol, from my view i see it about a who wants a girl who doesnt really care enough for him, but he is so blinded by her he does not really see it, sad situation, poor guy
