Elliott Smith – Roman Candle Lyrics 18 years ago
This might be far off the mark but I was just thinking about it the other day...

Maybe the song is about a man, who abuses his wife while he's drunk, and hates himself for it when he's sober.

Elliott Smith – Condor Ave. Lyrics 18 years ago
This is one of my favorite songs. Elliott's voice is so haunting. I just don't understand the last verse. Why is he singing that? Is it a flash back to the fight? Does he resent the fact that she died?

Also did the drunk have anything to do with the crash? Was he sitting in another car? Maybe, because Elliott was an Alcoholic, and I think he always resented that. Maybe that thought is off the mark though...

Elliott Smith – New Monkey Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is about drugs and how destructive, yet at the same time hopeful they are. The first verse is a meeting with a pusher. A sidewalk boss would make sense to be a dealer, because who else works on the side of the rode. The new monkey seems to be representative of the want to do the immoral self destructive choice. Monkeys are primates, the lower unevolved human being. Instead of doing what's civil and right, he listens to his less intellectually sophisticated side. The next verse is a high from the drugs. The final verse is the narrator proclaiming how feeling something, even if it's just a euphoria from the drugs, is better then feeling nothing at all.

The Thermals – I Might Need You To Kill Lyrics 19 years ago
One thing this song is satirizing is how religion defines how we view our world. Is it moral to impress your beliefs on some one who is otherwise pure?

It's wrong to tell someone what to do, but it's even worse when they tell you what to feel...
