| Mindless Self Indulgence – Tornado Lyrics | 16 years ago |

am i crazy, or is the "wanna be... pretty" bit a reference to "wonderfully... pretty" bit in The Cure's Love Cats? MSI loves to sample/reference/etc but it seems like no one has pointed this out at all? |

| David Bowie – Outside Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| isn't this a revision of the Tin Machine song "Now?" it's definitely been tailored to the Outside album, and i'm sure the dates being recited in the bsckground have some significance, but i am too lazy to look them up... | |
| David Bowie – Maid of Bond Street Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| aww, what a lonely sad song. a lot of these older songs are little story ballads, but there's this theme of getting what you want at a price- or getting gypped in the end... | |
| David Bowie – Somebody Up There Likes Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |

i always kinda got the impression that this song had something to do with John F. Kennedy- maybe the "Savage son of the TV tube/ Now you pick 'em off the screen" lines, and how a history tracher nce comented that the Kennedy/Nixon election had the first televised debates, and the American populace was suddenly confronted with an image that had more impact than the abstract ideas that were being discussed. it's clearly about politics, and how any agenda can be easily masked by a good media image. anyway, it has this awesome tone of a devil sliding into a well loved position bt dint of his selling skills. Keep your eyes on your soul, keep your hand on your heart. |

i think it has a lot to do with a post-apocalyptic world, as suggested above, as wellas the natural evolution of mankind, especially the idea that all things eventually degenerate into chaos, including humanity. also, the video is rad. |

personally, i relly dislike this song, but as there nare no comments here, and also nothing that explains this, i though i would give a bit of info: this is a cover of George Harrison's song. i'm sure there is discussion there for anyone searching for a deeper meaning. : ) |

| Elliott Smith – Happiness/The Gondola Man Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Is it completely crazy that this song REALLY reminds me of Brokeback Mountain? For some reason, it completely fits the story. Not saying either influenced the other (the book was out a few years ago,) just pointing out a parallel- Jack is playing out a false life, he's killed in the road. His wife lies about how he was killed after he's dead. Everyone is unhappy and has to keep on lying to protect themselves/others. Sad. |

| Elliott Smith – A Living Will Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
a Living Will is a will enacted while the subject is still alive, but incapacitated. it's most often brought up in terms of whether or not to keep someone on life support- a person can dictate whether they'd prefer to be kept alive, or let die naturally. This can be contested by families, who can keep a basically dead person aliva against their will. No pun intended. This is a sad son,g but it really isn't about drugs. Not every Elliott Smith song is about drugs. |
