A few good points there Age, but remember that one doesn't necessarily need to yell or scream to be angry, let alone interpret anger. As for pollution, I definitely felt that while hearing "Monkey Gone to Heaven". Mutilation, itself, may not exactly signify death in this song. Self improvement is masturbation, resisting to be yourself to be something your not. Self-destruction on the other hand; day-to-day, mental, doesn't matter: you become free. Mariana... knowing Black's numerous references to the ocean (as well as the twisted style of surfer music that the Pixies play) perhaps their hinting at the Mariana Islands, a place where the people are on such intimate levels with each other that they don't need to speak to know what's going on in their heads: something we all crave to some degree, a level of understanding and peace. It could also mean an old love that passed on to the other side. This song to me means freedom from everything, no restrictions, no strings. Nada. |
