okay, so i listened to this song one night when i was stoned out of my mind and i came up with some theories. there are many guitar licks that resemble others from light my fire and riders. even though morrison was not the musical organizer, it seems like we are kind of reminiscing in how far the band has come since such songs, and maybe how far we as humans have come, but not necessarily a good progression. there were parts that sound oddly spacey, i perceived these as morrison telling us that he is unaware of what the future on earth holds, but its really fuckin out there. at around 6:40 he starts talking about hearing the very gentle sound, then the macabre guitar note in the distant background. this whole scene reminds me of death, of the singer dieing. the last part of the song seemed to me as what morrison would be saying as he looked on the earth once he has ascended. trying to tell us not to fuck things up on earth. "when the music's over, turn out the lights' i interpret this as morrison telling us that mankind will not be around forever, and when we all die, we have to make sure we leave the world in the same, or better condition than when we inherited it. same as leaving a room, when everythings over and you leave, you better turn out the lights. i could be way fuckin off, but thats what i thought. |
