Tegan and Sara – Clever Meals Lyrics 16 years ago
this song is often listened to by people with eating disorders, although I'm not saying that's what it's about.
"They aren't desperate for love and affection
They're desperate for you"
that's often used as a calling out to Ana, and how they aren't starving for people to notice them, they're starving for "her".

"Will you shut your mouth you won't come across so dense "
this line just sounds like someone ignorant is trying to voice an opinion on something they know nothing about, which can be used in many cases.

this isn't my interpretation, it's just the first time I heard this song it was because an anorexic friend said that that's what she heard in the song and wanted me to listen.

Alkaline Trio – If You Had A Bad Time Lyrics 17 years ago
"This one came together pretty quick. Nothing special lyrically, but something I felt needed to be said. I know I'm dating myself here, but it's about getting older and unfortunately, when that happens you realise who your real friends are, and get a better sense of what's important in life. now obviously, this is different for everyone, so figure out what's important to you, and don't let anybody try and change your mind."

Lighthouse Family – (i Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be) Free/one Lyrics 17 years ago
The second verse is missing !

"I wish I could be like a bird in the sky
How sweet it would be if I found I could fly
Well I'd soar to the sun and look down at the sea
And I'd sing cos I know how it feels to be free"

This should fit in between the second and third stanzas as shown above.

Marilyn Manson – Believe Lyrics 18 years ago
"Sex, Guns, and Anarchy
Blood, Guts, and Sodomy"
The repetition of this seems to be trying to drill it in to your skull.

"Mutually your shore destruction
Backing down is not an option"
Once you're in, you're in for life, and you can see what's ahead yet are powerless to stop it.

"You dug a hole and fell inside
Your perfect world was compromised"
Could mean digging a grave, a hope for an escape from the world, or it could mean a metaphorical hole; like when people say "Just stop digging" when your words are really getting you in to a mess because you keep saying all the wrong things - so this could mean that everything's going wrong, no matter how much it is attempted to put it right, you dug your self into a hole and you're stuck there.
A compromise is where you meet someone halfway so you both get a bit of what you want. So, you get your perfect world - yet ironicly there are flaws so that maybe it's TOO perfect, and has turned out to be a nightmare catastrophe.

"You still don’t know who the hell you are
You’re only worried about the balance on your credit card"
Everything is so materialistic now, people buy buy buy and think "I'll deal with the bill later", maybe he's saying that people are buying so much that they're submerged and drowning in possessions, they're all fake and clones.

"TV sells hypocrisy
It’s feeding off of apathy"
Television is a main culprit of all advertising etc.

"Just put a bullet in my head
I’ve already have been left for dead"
There's no hope left for us, we may as well be dead because this certainly isn't living.

"Just shut your mouth and close your eyes
Reality’s alive"
Stop seeing the lies, stop speaking the lies - instead close your eyes and you'll see who you are, your own imagination. You close your eyes when you really need to think and concentrate, or when you dream - dreams are purely YOU, no one else has a say in what you dream - he's seems to be saying to listen to your dreams, be unique once more.

"You gotta believe in me
I am everything
I’m the final step you take towards your sanity
You gotta believe in me
I am everything
I’m the only one still left in your reality
You gotta believe in me"
Maybe this means "I'm your only hope", he's throwing a rope to the public, and begs them to grab hold of it firmly so he can help them.
Or he could be speaking as if he IS a brainwasher, telling everyone that they need nothing else, just 'him', just what he wants them to want...

I've never heard this song, just felt like seeing if I can pass the time at 1:30am.

Marilyn Manson – Burning Flag Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm going to analyse lines in a random order.

Just looking at these lines...
"we are all just scarred and we're hating
we are all just stars on your burning flag"
... should instantly give the meaning in my

opinion.

"Stars on your burning flag".
The American Flag; the burning flag I think is

to represent a country that's slowly being run

in to the ground, a country which cannot be

saved - once something's burnt, you can't

restore it. The fact they're stars could mean

the fact that they're there to glorify America,

to show it up as a place of wonder and

amazement - but really it's never been worse.

"Scarred and we're hating", just shows how they

hate what's become of their country and they

can't believe that they have to live to see it.

"They want to sell it out
buy it up
dumb it down"
'They', the government ?, want to have control

and hope no one notices that they're slowly

eliminating a freedom of speech.

"dumb it down
a good god is hard to find"
A God who actually helps you, someone realistic

to believe in because of the way religion seems

to be going down the drain, so you have so many

people opposed to it, and then so many people

killing for their Gods. Neither of which is the

right thing to do. Also, to use "dumb" and

"God" in the same few words is ironic, a God is

meant to be all powerful yet "dumb" implies a

certain lack of power, helplessness and

stupidity.

"I'll join the crowd that
wants to see me dead"
More irony really.

"you can point your gun at me
and hope it will go away
if god was alive,
he would hate you anyway"
Basically, violence solves nothing and people

nowadays are whipping out their guns at any odd

moment in order to win a battle when that does

nothing. It most likely relates to the large

religious groups who kill as a way of

respecting their God, because surely a God

loves everyone regardless of religion, race,

etc...So killing God's people is a crime

against Him/Them. He'd hate people who kill in

order to prove a point.

"my right wing is flapping
the left one is gray"
Relating to the political parties, they're

mundane and out of touch, "flapping" can be

related to when a person struggles in a

panicked fashion to try and make a point and

fails miserably.

"let's hear it for the kids but
nothing they say"
Everyone says 'kids are the future', yet they

don't listen to what the kids ACTUALLY think.

"they gyrate and G-rate
on Election Day"
Gyrating has something to do with spinning, going in circles - so maybe they exclaim the same old lies over and over again like a broken record, and people fall for it and vote them in.

"we got out ABC's and our F U C K"
ABCs could relate to having an education.
Maybe F U C K relates to the fact that people are possibly, finally, starting to see sense and realise their mistake with their chosen political party, since "FUCK" is usually exclaimed when you realise you, or someone else, has done something wrong.

"multiply your death
divide by sex
add up the violence and
what do you get?"
That's pretty basic mathematics. He's pretty much spelling out the catastrophe that is the USA, in his opinion, in a simple formula people should understand.

Well that occupied some time :]

Manson FTW !

Michael Bublé – Home Lyrics 18 years ago
Of course, you could also interpret it as the person he loves has died, and so all the hot Summer days feel cold and crowds feel lonely.
Home could be the sensation of love, how he feels with the person who cared for him. He really wishes for that yo come back, really craves it, and really needs it.

But I don't think this is correct because then he mentions "coming back home", which would infer suicide; which I think is a tad incorrect.

Michael Bublé – Home Lyrics 18 years ago
"Another summer day
Has come and gone away
In Paris and Rome
But I wanna go home"
Even though it's a beautiful day, all he wants is to return to his loved one(s).

"Maybe surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel all alone
I just wanna go home
Oh I miss you, you know"
Girlfriend, Grandfather -whichever. It's said you're never more alone than when you're in a crowd, and he's reflecting that in this song. Surrounded by people, but it makes him feel upset to not be with his loved one(s), perhaps he's seeing happy couple all around and missing his girl, or he's seeing families and missing his grandad... Whichever.

"And I’ve been keeping all the letters that I wrote to you"
He writes letters, but deems them unworthy to be sent.
"Each one a line or two
“I’m fine baby, how are you?”
Well I would send them but I know that it’s just not enough
My words were cold and flat
And you deserve more than that"
The person he misses deserves so much more than a letter, in his opinion, and he feels sorry for leaving them behind when he left. A letter doesn't really show emotion too well, it can seem quite formal.

"Another aeroplane
Another sunny place"
Maybe he's traveling somewhere else, somewhere hot and luxurious perhaps.
"I’m lucky I know
But I wanna go home
Mmmm, I’ve got to go home"
He knows it's a life many might crave and envy, but all he wants is the person he loves.

"Let me go home
I’m just too far from where you are
I wanna come home"
He needs to be close to whoever the song's for, and he's begging to return to them.

"And I feel just like I’m living someone else’s life"
It doesn't feel real, doesn't feel right.
"It’s like I just stepped outside
When everything was going right"
Stepped outside, as in leaving a comfortable environment, he left the people he loves. Like stepping outside a warm room in the a cold back garden, he realises it was a mistake and wants to turn round and go back.
"And I know just why you could not
Come along with me
But this was not your dream
But you always believed in me"
He wanted to follow his lifelong dream, and he must have begged whoever he loved to come with him - but it wasn't what they wanted so they wished him the best and he left. Perhaps he feels guilty for leaving.

"Another winter day
Has come and gone away
In even Paris and Rome
And I wanna go home
Let me go home"
This could be representing either the passing of time, from Summer to Winter, to show how long he's been away. Or it could show how cold his life, and the world, feels without the person he loves. Or both.

"And I’m surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel alone
Oh, let go home
Oh, I miss you, you know"
A bit self explanitory.

"Let me go home
I’ve had my run
Baby, I’m done
I gotta go home
Let me go home
It will all be alright
I’ll be home tonight
I’m coming back home"
He's finally resolute, he gives up with what he's doing, he's "had [his] run", so he's perhaps finished what he wanted/needed to do, he's exhausted - he can't stand being away from them anymore and returns.

Hmm...
Easy enough song to decipher.

Tegan and Sara – You Went Away Lyrics 18 years ago
I've listened to this song a lot recently, but reading the lyrics with the song... It's like spending all day with a person, yet not knowing exactly who they are.
"there's more to life than love and being together"
like she's determined that she can move on from him/her.
"is there more to life than love and being together?"
like asking for reassurance that there is more in life for the two of them.
"I went away"
She moved on, but the way it's sung shows how begrudging the move away from him/her was, and how she could still fall back in love with him/her so easily if he confessed his/her love for her.
I love this.

I suppose it's around that phrase "like a rabbit caught in the headlights" - are you going to be killed, or be the killer.

"I think your all putting too much meaning into it and the whole idea of it being an internet relationship is a bit much.... I think it's just about a girl who has been dumped and she wants him back, she wants to see him walking up her driveway...
It's like sitting at home thinking about how bad you want him to call, it's about imagining him knocking on your door and saying "I don't know what i was thinking, I want you back"... and perhaps she has trouble keeping guys or girls or whatever, it seems that this has happened more than once"

Good Charlotte – All Black Lyrics 18 years ago
And I think he might be using "black" as a metaphor for dark, gloomy... How the world is falling to darkness, not necessarily just the colour.
"But I find beauty in this world every single night"
He's saying, possibly, how even though the world is so dark, he's managing to find beauty in it still.
I don't understand "Never been much for weddings or anniversaries but
I go to a funeral if I'm invited any day of the week" too much, but hell - Joel put it there for a reason.

And Aulakauss , I'm sorry but I find it depressing how you catergorise yourself =/

The Fray – How To Save A Life Lyrics 19 years ago
To me, this song is/means many things.
When my Dad passed away in January, it was a gentle song which allowed me to cry. When it says "And I would have stayed up with you all night; Had I known how to save a life.", that's exactly how I feel, and that's exactly my regret.
Then in February when I was assaulted, I felt suicidal. I felt my life was worthless, I felt like I was worthless. I suddenly found a new meaning in this song, it was more like something my best friend might have thought it I ended it... It reminded me of a certain conversation I'd had with him..
When someone I love, but had to break up with earlier in the year for personal reasons, found a new relationship as his attempt at moving on, I listened to this simply because of how calming it was, and again it gave me the chance to cry. Certain lyrics such as "Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend somewhere along in the bitterness" leaped out at me, because I couldn't so much as look at him anymore, making friendship near impossible.

However, the real meaning of this song is as follows. I'm not saying this is the reason you have to see, however. I'm saying this is what the song was written for, about and to be heard as.
Music is what the listener makes it.

But anyway:

" “How to Save a Life” is based on Slade’s experience as a mentor to a crack-addicted teen. “The song is more of a memoir about his slow-motion decent and all the relationships he lost along the way,” he says. “It’s the easiest one for me to sing every night. I constantly get e-mails from people who relate to it.”

The song follows a hypothetical conversation between an addict and a friend. In the verses, the singer is the coach, telling you what to say and how the person is likely to react. “Step one you say we need to talk… He smiles politely back at you… And you begin to wonder why you came.” The type of confrontation described is frequently referred to as an intervention. (There’s even a reality show on cable about interventions.) Basically the addict is given an ultimatum: either get help or else. The song instructs you to “…grant him one last choice/ ‘Drive until you lose the road/ Or break with the ones you’ve followed.’ ”

There’s a lot of truth in the approach of the song. The Bible tells us in Galatians 6:1, “Brothers, if someone is caught in sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently.” (Also see Colossians 3:12.) Slade recognizes the value in approaching someone with love and gentleness as he sings, “Try to slip past his defense,” as in don’t beat him over the head. And later, “As he begins to raise his voice/ You lower yours…” or else the situation will quickly escalate and you’ll have a fight on your hands.

The most important line of the song is at the end of the second verse, “And pray to God he hears you.” The fact is that we don’t have it in our power to save someone from their struggles. It’s when God touches a person’s heart and that person responds that change really happens. Any confrontation or intervention should be fully soaked in prayer beforehand. Prayer is a powerful and underused tool.

Not only that, but prayer also helps us put the situation in perspective by putting it in God’s hands where it belongs. Peter encourages us to “cast all your anxieties on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:17). It’s important to realize that we don’t have control over another person’s life. But in the chorus, the singer blames himself for his friend’s problems, “Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend… And I would have stayed up with you all night/ Had I known how to save a life.” This is where I part ways with the song. While you may feel there is something you could have done better or differently, the truth is that people make their own choices. Even if you do everything by the book, say just the right words, and pray your heart out, the decision to turn around is ultimately up to that person. That can be a difficult truth to accept, which is why it’s so important to spend time on your knees letting God heal your heart rather than blaming yourself."

My Chemical Romance – Cancer Lyrics 19 years ago
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against My Chemical Romance.
However...
This song...
Having recently lost my father to cancer, I thought this song might be a good song to listen to, however all it does is hurt. Hurt because of the loss, but also it hurts because it's wrong... The only line I can relate to would be 'my lips are chapped and faded'.
My Dad wanted to die, leaving us wasn't hard. I wished he'd be put out of his misery, because I knew he hated it. He wanted to die because of the agony the cancer was putting him through, the humiliation, he died the only way he never wished to go. Laying in a bed, unable to communicate other than by squeezing my hand, his eyes permenantly open, unblinking, his mouth dry... His skin tight to his bones. His once chubby and well rounded figure was skinny, 10 stone lost within 3 months.
If the cancer hadn't killed him, he'd have had a heart attack instead because of the strain his heart was put through.
The image is heart breaking.
And this song... It just doesn't do anything but hurt, and the hurt isn't the memories I have. It's the fact that the lyrics mean nothing in relation to how horrific Cancer really is.
I refuse to listen to this song, it simply makes me angry to the bone.
