| A Fine Frenzy – Happier Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I definitely think it's about a relationship that just has nothing left. And I don't think the guy wants to break up with her and break her heart. So he's trying to convince her that she'll be happier, but in reality he is. He's putting the idea in her head, so it'll seem like her idea and he won't be the bad guy. | |
| Andrew Bird – Fake Palindromes Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song screams masochism to me. Or a guy who falls for a girl who's into BDSM. "jesus don't you know that you could've died" - I think immediately of erotic asphyxiation, which has a pretty big death toll, obviously. "and she's got knee high socks, what to cover a bruise" - another example that screams BDSM. "certain fads, stripes and plaids, singles ads" - BDSM has become a fad in the recent years. "so you bite on a towel hope it won't hurt too bad" - loves the pain but is always scared? "and she says i like long walks and sci-fi movies if you're six foot tall and east coast bred some lonely night we can get together and i'm gonna tie your wrists with leather and drill a tiny hole into your head" - looking for someone to join the act. Now, there's a 99.9% chance that I'm taking this way out of proportion. I also see the metaphors in the above lines. But every time I listen to this, I think of BDSM. Maybe my mind's just too polluted from religiously reading Mary Gaitskill. |

| Gabe and Benny – Take the Love Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| So frustrating. These aren't the lyrics I posted.. | |
| Sufjan Stevens – Springfield, or Bobby Got a Shadfly Caught in His Hair Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I agree 100% with all the interpretations so far. But I can't shake the vague memory of hearing it had to do with JFK, and his assassinator Lee Harvey Oswald. I once heard that it had to due with, in one's opinion, Oswald's son, "Bobby", or in someone else's opinion, JFK's son, which makes more sense since he actually had a prominent son - I can't find any record of a son of Oswald. Anyways, the line "If my father took his life for the national plan, I don't care" was what made me believe with the whole son named Bobby theory. But the more I listen and read over the lyrics, it's just too vague and probably has nothing to do with any presidential or assassinator son. Although, I swear ""If my father took his life for the national plan" is just oddly coincidental. | |

| Rose Falcon – Breakable Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Obviously about a child, who is either abused, or has an angry home life of abuse. Sad but beautiful. <3 | |
| Rose Falcon – Best Friend Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Definitely about her mother. How she knew that if her mom had lived, they would have been close, "best friends". This song really hits me. I've always loved Rose Falcon. :) |

Pretty obvious. Friends with benefits to serious relationship. Still love the song though :) |
| Azure Ray – Sleep Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song reminds me of a couple who are constantly fighting, but even though she's mad at him, she still wants to feel him next to her because he makes her feel safe. Love it though. Almost like a lullaby for a crappy marriage, haha. |
| Tracy Chapman – Fast Car Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love this song. I learned it from my mother, which makes it even more special. The meaning is obvious: her and a man were in love at some point, obviously young, and wanting to escape where they were. But they rushed into things and figured out that things weren't going as planned. Reminds me of my first love. |

| Better Than Ezra – Desperately Wanting Lyrics | 15 years ago |
For me-and as I must say, I could most definitely be wrong-this song screams adolescence. Perhaps he's talking about a girl, maybe a best friend or past serious girlfriend, that was always pushed around by adults and authority, hidden from the world after mistakes she's made. "Passed the road to your house That you never called home" (She didn't feel like she had a family, that they frowned upon her, therefore she didn't feel like it was home) "Where they turned out your lights Though they say you'll never know" (Her "parents" were hiding her, telling everyone she was all right, therefore turning out her "lights", hoping she'll be oblivious to all of this, afraid to speak out) "I remember running through the wet grass Falling a step behind Both of us never tiring Desperately wanting" (They apparently loved each other, grew up with each other, and desperately wanting to escape these childhood troubles) "When they pumped out your guts And filled you full of those pills" (I'm thinking something about an overdose?) "You were never quite right Deserving all the chills" (It traumatized her, whatever it was) "They say the worst is over Kicked it over and ran Then they ask what went wrong When they turn you on again They turn you on again" (Once again "they" are telling her how to feel, pretending they knew was she was feeling, and every time something went wrong, or she made a "mistake", they were confused and angry and began controlling her again.) "Kick them right in the face Make them wish they weren't born" (He's telling her to take control and fight these people who won't let anything go.) "And if they bring up your name Well they'll say you won the war" (He's saying it will pay off, maybe?) "Baby burst in the world Never given a chance" (Maybe she got pregnant? And her parents were telling her to get an abortion, not leaving her much of a choice anyway) "Then they ask what went wrong When you never had it right Well, you never had it right" (Her parents act like this is the first time anything has gone wrong, playing somewhat "stupid") "Oh the letters have dropped off Though they say you got them all" (People are trying to contact her, but she doesn't know it because her parents are pretending like no one cares about her. Or, maybe, she was in a hospital, maybe a psychiatric residential treatment facility, and they don't want anyone talking to her.) "I finally figured out some things you'll never know" (He realizes how many things people have been hiding from her) "Take back your life Let me inside We'll find the door If you care, if you care to anymore" (He obviously wants to help her. He's telling her to trust him and let him inside. But he's not sure if she even has hope anymore) I'm not sure, but this is what I got from it. It sort of reminds me of Desperate Housewives, when Danielle gets pregnant and Brie sends her to a convent. Haha. But this song resonates deep inside of me, whatever the meaning is. |

| Kerli – Love Is Dead Lyrics | 17 years ago |
in a video interview, she explained that she wrote this about a man she was in love with but he didnt love her back. so at the time, she was heartbroken and wrote this. and after further listen, she found more meaning in the song. as in, she realized it also means the world is aching for love and drenched with hate. i love this song. it's so powerful |

| Augustana – Sweet and Low Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i agree with most of the comments, but personally, i also think its about a boy thats in love with a younger girl. and by "hold me down and i'll carry you home" he's saying, no matter how much i wanna be with you in that sense, you're still young and i dont want to take your innocence away. and he promises that if he stops her from making those mistakes, he'll take care of her. like for instance "ill carry you all the way when you say you're fine but you're still young and outta line" and that if she does her part, he'll do his part and make this underage love work. that's my interpretation :) |

| The Starting Line – 21 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
idk, it sounds a lot like "7 in and im already wasted.." and so on. maybe im just crazy? |
| Paramore – We Are Broken Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I do think everyone has their own perception on the song but mine is a relationship broken because of something they did..like losing their innocence.. im not sure but the lines: "Cause I'd like to capture this voice that came to me tonight So everyone will have a choice" make me think of showing that she had a choice to do what she did and that voice was her saying she was ready and she had a choice but now they're regretting it and i think the promise they adored was the promise of keeping their virginity but i dont know that's just my idea |
