I thought it was about somebody about to be executed. The dirty king 'lost it all to a tiny vial', his 'hands are always tied' (in cuffs, or maybe a reference to tying off before IV drugs). Finally he's 'strapped in for the ride' which is the electric chair, like Metallica - Ride the Lightning. I guess the tiny vial could also be a lethal injection. Something like that anyways. |

That's what I've always thought too metalmunki Also when you're on opiates you slip in and out of consciousness, so if you're sitting up your head bobs up and down, it's called nodding and explains "Mistook their nods for an approval" "Ignore the smoke and smile" Could be ignore all the trouble the opiates are causing (Where there's smoke there's fire) but it might be referencing that they were smoking the drug as well. |

| I believe this song is about Papaver Somniferum, the opium poppy. As are many songs on this album (Poppies, and Opium). I think the lyrics are actually "Black cat petals and a smiling crown" because when an opium poppy is ready for harvest the "crown" on the seed pod curls up, a smiling crown. To make poppy tea you add the seed pods to lightly boiling water "Murmur simmer and I'm feeling slow" the simmering of the pods and the "feeling slow" as the effects of the opiates. | |

I think this song is about methamphetamine: I don't feel it anymore I don't sleep, anymore, I don't eat, anymore, I don't live anymore, I don't feel. Methamphetamine removes your feelings and fears, it makes it so you can't sleep or eat food and in the end you basically don't live at all. And after a point you don't get high from it "I don't feel it". Instead of getting high you need it just to function and feel normal. I used to use meth and this song has a lot of meaning to me, probably my favorite by System of a Down. |
