Jurassic 5 – Twelve Lyrics 16 years ago
Love this song. Original Hip-Hop progression. Effective bassline and some top lyrics.
2na steals the show for me in this one. His two verses are like poetry, tearing up the syntax "...newly prepared grits. IT'S 2na Fish..." Love that emphasis on 'It's!'
I never knew they said bumbaclod cos it is cooed so low but I researched and it's what Jamaicans say as an expletive. I also rate "Verbal vinegar for you biters down at the salad bar!"

Jurassic 5 – Remember His Name Lyrics 16 years ago
This is one of my faves off PIN. I like that narrative which kinda reminds me of Dylan's "Hurricane" albeit a very different song. The flute(?) sample used is by Ennio Morricone and is so well used. I like that steady bass-line too - so simple, and a bit like the one used in Eminem's "Stan".
I particularly like 7even and 2na's dailogue where they kinda finish off each other's sentences "Hatchback..." "-Corolla, these cats pack pistolas". I think Nu Mark is the brains behind this one. Dope az

I like to listen to this song on a Monday morning and think about the previous drunken Sunday evening and think, 'what the fuck am I doing in life'?

The Modern Lovers – I'm Straight Lyrics 17 years ago
yea, upthera44, I agree.
Apparently Hippie Johnny refers to on-and-off Modern Lovers guitarist John Felice.
This message still stands true today. My mates are all clever but hide behind the fake auspices of shitly-mixed drugs at parties.
"I'm proud to say I'M STRAIGHT!" - must have been a controversial thing just after the '60s.
Also, a lot of (citation needed) people in the UK think that this song refers to JR's sexual orientation. Ahh, the Atlantic...

Ozomatli – Cut Chemist Suite Lyrics 18 years ago
hey, big fan of this song. The brass gives it a 'Sesame Street' vibe. Does anyone know all the notes? It's harmonized real nicely. If someone could message me the notes i'd be forever grateful!

VHS Or Beta – No Cabaret Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is a constant source of inspiration for me. The bass riff, the guitar pedal exhibition, electric drum kit at its best, amazing 80s style vocals and lyrics that compliment the genre of electronica funk/guitar house: NO CABERET! with our feet here on the floor!

Pink Floyd – Us and Them Lyrics 18 years ago
Hi, i'm trying to find some kind of metaphor or comment with the cold war (specifically Korea or Vietnam) and the lyrics

"forward he cried from the rear
and the front rank died
and the General sat, and the lines on the map
moved from side to side"

the map lines make me think of the 38th parallel... can anyone think of anything? please message me or write here with ANY help. Thanks

Elliott Smith – Alphabet Town Lyrics 19 years ago
my favourtie also. another combo of beautiful and haunting. Interesting points doyou_missme. There is deffinitely something with that 'pronounce/understand' theme. Key to his lovelife maybe as badge noticed above- all the women have complicated/unique names. Not simple enough for Elliott.

Elliott Smith – Flowers for Charlie Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree that the melody sounds like War Is Over, maybe on purpose?

I think he is forgiving his step-dad, or at least telling himself that he is forgiven so he can move on with his life.

I instantly thought of The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Chbosky when I saw the song title. I know other people have mentioned that book when talking about his music.

Television – Venus de Milo Lyrics 19 years ago
i agree with bazmeg. It is late at night for 2 kids against the world. Verlaine is having a great time with Hell. The Venus reference is wicked. They fell into nothing, but all the time it was an adventure. This is real existentialism. Does this man write?

Elliott Smith – Tomorrow Tomorrow Lyrics 19 years ago
I think the 'static' line is the heroin in his head. 'The reflected sound of everything'- clearly immersed in the potent drug. But the drug is uninspiring and doesn't 'lead to anything', pointless, like the perception of his life. Did he take crack as a substitue/prolonging of suicide? 'The noise is coming out', i agree that it is probably a gun. If he doesn't kill himself now, he can drown tomorrow out with drugs instead. Like if I'm having a bad week I will drown tomorrow out with a heavy drinking session. Escapism/Intoxication. Fascinating.

Television – Marquee Moon Lyrics 19 years ago
2nd verse seems to be like Verlaine losing his virginity? The man at the tracks gives the character some philosophy, don't be too happy or too sad, possibly Verlaine's attitude to life. The final verse has a cadaverous connection. Who would get in a car in a graveyard? Deffinitely agree that this band could arrange songs like no other..
