This song has been covered (most notably by Joan Baes) but I can say with absolute certainty it was written by Donovan for the love of his life, Linda Lawrence. |

I always thought that "every time you come around my london - london bridge will not go down" which, um, might make a little more sense in the context of the song. |

the ultimate love song, surely. My friend's mom said one day, while my friend who'd (unfortunately) fallen in love with me was in the room, "In every relationship one person always loves the other more, and they always end up getting hurt." Especially strange, because she married her highschool sweetheart and they're still happily together... |

by the way, these were incredibly difficult to find, but here's the complete tab. Really simple once you get the hang of it; it's only a couple chords.

| Donovan – Young Girl Blues Lyrics

Yet another song about Linda Lawrence, who was at this time, I believe, in California (maybe New York) pursuing a modelling career (Brian Jones Jr. back in Britain with her parents) because she wanted to be independent.
P.S. can anyone figure out the chords? |

Oh, okay, "Offbeatnikchick," I've written a song for you. It's a forty-five second vamp on a 12-string acoustic, fingerpicked with these monster claws of mine. I've titled it (quite appropriately, I think) "Forty-Five Second Vamp in F minor" |

Crap, no comments! This is my absolute favorite song EVER, but I only heard it once at some stupid ex-hippie party at my mom's friend's. Can anyone help me find the music for it? |

It's very reminiscient of Shel Siverstein's "Sausalito Witch," which, incidentally, I play for my friend all the time and she doesn't seem to get. |

I always figured "footsie in another dimension" was A) totally wasted and B) flirting with ideas of spirituality in that superficial, ankh&angst kinda way
Incidentally, I *totally* know this Nitemare Hippie girl. Seriously, I first heard this song wfrom a friend who was singing it in the kitchen and I was amazed, because usually she can't rhyme worth a damn, and I was convinced she'd written it for our puff-pastry pal. |

It's about zen. There is a flower, there isn't a flower... crap, this is harder than I thought. Does anyone here know the story of the Tibetan monestary... The master asked his students what the meaning of life (or enlightenment, or something) was. Nobody answered. He went down the row, and no one had anything. One kid put up his hand a little as he was thinking, raising a finger. "Correct," said the master. All the other kids were pissed -- saying he just got lucky, raising one finger (as though pointing up, or saying "I am.") The next time they congregated, the master asked the same question, and each person raised their finger.
"correct."
The next time, the master asked the same question, and as soon as the boy in front of him raised his finger HE SLICED IT OFF.
"Now," he repeated the question. The boy raised his bloodied fist.
"Correct."

Does that help? It is, and it isn't, and... it's... oh come on, now, we all know donovan loves this jazz. |

| Donovan – Wear Your Love Like Heaven Lyrics

My parents were out of town so I lent my spare key to a friend so we could use it as a home base. I ended up not getting home one night, and apparently he and another friend got completely baked and came back to my room, where I'd left the CD player and lavalamp on. On the way home, the guest of my friend (an aquaintance of mine) had a flashback to a bad trip... they lay down on my bed, and apparently Donovan mellowed him the hell out. Donovan is my messiah. |

This is one of the songs Donovan wrote while he believed his carreer in music was over. According to his autobiography "As I dug you diggin' me" refers to Linda (Brian Jone's baby-momma), the love of his life, with whom he was communicating spiritually.
And oh god, I must comment of the phosphorus imagery -- I thought it was fairly common becasue at my friend's cabin it's there 30% of the times we wanna go night-swimming, but apparently it's unusual. For those of you who HAVEN'T experienced bioluminesence, just use your imagination and you won't overestimate how magical it was. Once the sea lit up SO much it was like *I* was GLOWING. All of me, from the inside out. No, no drugs or alcohol was involved.
I cried the first time I heard this song. It made me learn to play guitar. Now you know. |
