Five Iron Frenzy – American Kryptonite Lyrics 17 years ago
I see the "He" as referring to the American consumer, who is being portrayed (ironically) as a superhero, and sacrifice is his own great weakness, his kryptonite.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – A Bottle of Buckie Lyrics 17 years ago
Does anyone else think there's a dark undertone to this song? There is the reference to the children's crusade and the last verse (Marching Days/Someone said to run) make me wonder if he's also discussing religious violence here (like in Born on Christmas Day).

Rage Against the Machine – Year of tha Boomerang Lyrics 19 years ago
Uncleanjoe, your statement that “churches are usually rightwing” is an egregious hasty generalization. You ignore the fact that many denominations oppose the death penalty. many churches, such as the United Methodist and Episcopalian are split on the issue of gay marriage. Historically many of these churches advocated the abolition of slavery, and opposed segregation. Social activism and championing the rights of the impoverished are quite common among Christian denominations. Other groups such as the quakers and Anabaptists are pacifists.
