angeles has an ambiguously positive/negative message. which is pretty cool this song could be about fighting for the one you love, so as not to lose them to some one who's a player who happens to have more money. Someone's always coming around here trailing some new kill (the player is always looking to scham on some new girl) Says, "I seen your picture on a hundred dollar bill" (this is just a metaphor but basically, the guy's using his money to impress the girl) And what's a game of chance to you, to him is one of real skill (the player thinks he has skills, and he likes to make girls "fall in love" with him. the girl who's getting played thinks it's all this mystical occurrence of falling in love, that love is a game of chance) So glad to meet you Angeles (this is sarcasm and Los Angeles is the place where the player's evil mentality prevails) Picking up the ticket shows there's money to be made (elliot's starting to realize that money is what really matters in this world. there are buyers who are getting taken advantage of and sellers who are taking advantage. I don't think it's about love fading away on either end. The love is still there on her side; the other side is a mystery. She's a strong woman, and proud, but she's broken up with the love of her life for some reason that keeps them apart now, but when she looks at the stars, she imagines kissing him. This fantasy makes her second guess herself and wish she knew where he was. She doesn't know where he is, but in her head and heart, he's always with her. another indication that the second relationship will be a repeat of the first: the second girl probably wants to walk without crutches, both actually and emotionally, and She eventually wants to fall in love with this guy completely. He, on the other hand, holds on to his emotional crutches because he's afraid of letting them go and surrendering to love. Eventually, she won't need the crutches, and she'll gladly get rid of them, but he looks at the same situation with apprehension. BUT then again, he may be more compatible with th second woman, for she will not give the narrator everything that the first woman did. The first woman gave the narrator her "emotional legs" Whereas the narrator keeps his "legs" and can walk on his own, and the second woman will one day be able to walk on her own. She and him will probably have mutual love, although it will never be as intense as the love that the first girl gave the narrator, but that's probably better for they guy, seeing as he can't give that much anyway. |

He never gave the first girl his heart, so she's pissed and trying to deny him everything from her trust to the rum, but there's nothing she can really do to be on top of the situation anymore because she already gave him her heart. She's trying to deny him every little thing in order to make up for the fact that she's already given him the biggest thing and not gotten the same in return. All he can do is offer his stick of gum. He can give her everything but what she wants, his love. He can't give himself completely emotionally. The first girl is also probably pissed because she's friends with his new girl; that's why girl 1 has girl 2's picture in her apartment. I agree with the part about being emotionally crippled. The first girl has given the guy her "emotional legs" by giving him her heart. The guy just can't return the same feelings. He seems to be incapable of doing it with anybody. Even though he's found a new girl, he won't ask for a lot "I never asked for your crutch" because he knows he can't give a lot "Don't ask for mine" He's unable to fully give in to love or fully give love, and he's warning girl 2 not to expect too much. Girl2 was in an actual wheelchair that she needed, kind of like the guy who won't give up his "emotional wheelchair". He can't give up his "wheelchair" (his heart). This is how he relates to Girl2. She also couldn't give up hers. BUT the song indicates growth. Just as Girl 2 moves on to only needing crutches, perhaps there's a chance that maybe the guy will have a little more emotional give than he had before, but never fully. After all, Girl 2 will eventually be able to walk without crutches (symbolizing how she will one day be able to give herself fully to the guy), but there's no clear indication that he will ever want to give up his heart (it's his permanent "crutch, and in the warning tone of the last two lines, it's pretty clear he's afraid of her losing her "emotional crutch" because then he'll get stuck in the same situation as in the first relationship) |

There's even meaning to "What's COOLER THAN BEING COOL" "ICE COLD" It's about how love has become completely degraded today. We confuse sex for love, and we don't have real feelings. It's "cool" to NOT SHOW EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT. It's cooler than being cool. Be ice cold, completely emotionally unattached, cuz being a player is way more idealized than being a cool person with a steady girlfriend or boyfriend. All love is today is women showing off our goodies and men idealizing emotional unattachment. This song is deceptively deep. Love it. Outkast=the shit! |

idlewild: some one who's idle, perhaps out of a job blues: it sucks to be out of work and bored PLUS the video was dedicated to "all those trying to stay afloat" (basically it's a struggle to make ends meet when you're out of work) He's saying, even though times are rough, everyone gets down (gets the "blues"), SO DON'T WORRY ABOUT HIM because he'll be fine. "Even babies get the blues" means all people, even children, get down or go through hard times. People view the troubles of children as being trivial, so he's saying that maybe it is trivial. Either way, he'll be fine, because he's got his music, and eventually there's nothing that can't be gotten over. "Some call it baby blue. Some call it midnight blue" Some see their troubles as trivial (baby blue), and others see them as dire (midnight blue), but either way, it'll be ok. "Diss the town" "Wontcha let me shine" Do your own thing and don't let the haters get you down. |
