I think a lot of you are missing a key thing in this song. in the beginning, he says that time goes by so fast now that she's gone... so what would make this time slow back down... finding someone new, someone who can slow time back down. For the longest time I thought this was purely a breakup song, but now I realize it's a song about finding new love, and it makes so much more sense. The song starts out with the lead singer singing about himself reflecting on his past love, and how nothing has seemed right since they left, Hollywood and the canyons are actually symbolic of love... and he wishes she would take him back. Next verse he is talking about how dating seems hopeless, how there seems to be a lot of hopefuls, but there just isn't the pearl there he expected. But then someone hopeful comes along, the whole To see the way that light attaches to a girl line. Suddenly he is saying that he hopes this girl will come to California, which as I said earlier is symbolic of his love... he's secretly hoping she'll see something in him The next verses the two of them are spending time together, reflecting with each other about their past, and he realizes that while you need to hold on to the moments, they do pass... and you move on... and that maybe it's time, that he should return to hollywood and the canyons, but with this new chick. |

A song meaning site and all you all can talk about is how trippy the video is... so sad... This is actually a very beautiful song when you realize the symbolism of it... Jom tanks is right, it is meant to be crystal fiend, but I feel his meaning is way off. The crystal part refers to crystal meth... If you notice, every line has beautiful imagery, followed by negative imagery. EXCEPT THE LAST LINE, also the only one that doesn't follow the same verse length... here you have negative imagery with negative energy. I was watching the movie the salton sea and heard this song in it, then listened to the song lyrics... that's when the true meaning clicked. This song is part of the reason I personally packed up all my stuff and checked into rehab to kick my own meth addiction. |
