I like both takes on the lyrics, but to me the melody of the song and the sadness in vocals makes it sound like its about Kullervo and his sister. |

With lyrics such as "Leave no room for a happy ending" and "Burn the candle at both ends" I would go even further than Beetlejuice and say this song is about living on the edge. |

"Oh how I wish, I could die now. Just to live another day"
The song is not bad, but the lyrics are terrible, almost on the same level as In Flame's "I feel like sh$t, but at least I feel something". |

To me this song always seemed about seeing your friends do crazy things like drugs but refusing to be a part of it and thus alienating yourself. |

My favorite song on the album. Seems to me like this is where the son and the father part and the son has a really hard time grieving after his mother and losing his father as well. |

Any of you guys seen the movie "The Road"? This song captures the mood and atmosphere of that movie almost perfectly. |

I like Tool and all, but lyrics-wise, this is probably their worst song. I guess even considering Tool's greatness, they can't really compete with the likes of Opeth and Katatonia. |

| Katatonia – Forsaker Lyrics

|
|
The song is obviously about the video game Left 4 Dead, people who abandon their team are called Ragequitters, so the first line of the song talks about this: "Rage from a distance". It calls these types of people Forsakers, because that's what they do, they forsake their fellow players. The rest of the lyrics just say how the other team takes over. |

You probably downloaded the same copy as me, that's how "Cornered" starts, you'll notice the songs are the same. |

Hmmm, I take my words back. I just got the album in better quality and I can clearly hear "Looks the enemy in the eye". Also in the booklet it says "enemy" so. |

Seems to be about a girl that committed suicide. The song is pretty cool, got me hooked on this band. But a true miracle was that my friend who hates metal and is all into techno actually loves this song. |

Well the meaning of the song is pretty clear. You can kind of still tell that Niklas Sundin wrote the lyrics, but I think that Anders's ideas are showing through, which is not a good thing, Friden cannot write lyrics for sh*t. |

| In Flames – Eraser Lyrics

|
To DreamersDisease:
I have absolutely no problem if bands change sound, I enjoyed Come Clarity, STYE, RR, and I have no problem if the band chooses to slow down their music. Take Dark Tranquillity for example, their album Projector is a 180 degree turn from their other stuff, but I dig that album too. Now the reason for that is - songwriting did not get any worse. Now look at ASOP, the songwriting is no good, and the lyrics coming from Anders have never been so redundant. |

Its weird, I read the lyrics to November, Crestfallen, Forsaken and am amazed. Then I read the lyrics to this song and am totally surprised by how bland and boring they are compared to those other songs mentioned. Is Mark the only one who writes lyrics for DD? |

| Chevelle – Still Running Lyrics

If I remember correctly, Pete said he and his brothers used to work construction before they started playing as band, so the song is about how instead of complaining you should be marching forwards and getting done whatever needs to be done. |

| Dark Tranquillity – Lethe Lyrics

To elvin_wizard:
We all know that Lethe is the river of forgetfulness, but even a five year old would realize that the song is not talking about the river, it just uses the river as a metaphor. So to answer your question, in schools these days they teach to analyze literature critically. Now I'm wondering, what exactly have you added to this thread? |

| Joan Osborne – One Of Us Lyrics

Reading the chorus backwards gives an interesting way of interpreting the song. Instead of having, "What if God is the stranger on the bus", we have "What if the stranger on the bus is God!". So this song might be asking how do we treat a person next to us, what if that person next to us happens to be God? |

samwalton has it right, Niklas Sundin wrote most of IF's lyrics up until Clayman.
One person mentioned a very interesting concept that "Colony" is a concept album and the songs are about different families/people coping with grief. I'm not saying he's right or anything, but it might create a different on these songs. |

Who wrote the lyrics for this song??? I know at the time IF wasn't really a band, so Jesper wrote all of the music, but just curios if he wrote the lyrics or if it was Mikael Stanne? |

At first I was surprised "The Sense of Purpose" wasn't going to include this song, because its a pretty good song. But after listening to the album itself I think I know why... IF realized that putting this song on the album will make the rest of the songs look bad. Not because "Eraser" is so good, but because the album totally sux. |

This is probably the most pathetic song In Flames have ever recorded. "I feel like $hit but at least I feel something?" I think Anders has a lawsuit coming his way for plagiarizing some 12-year-old's Myspace blog. |

I think on its own, STYE is actually a pretty good album (In search for I being my favorite song), but if you compare it to their older work it definitely stinks. But you can't really blame this band, they have worked too hard for too long, they deserve some exposure and unfortunately they had to make an album like STYE in order to get that exposure. You can't really blame anyone for the fact that most people are unable to appreciate good music. |

| Blink-182 – All the Small Things Lyrics

These guys are pretty good. What I've always liked about Blink is that they didn't take themselves seriously, in which case their music fit real well. If they started singing some love songs, which i think they did on their last CD, now that's when we have a problem.
And no you don't have to tell me that i have poor taste in music, I do listen to Children Of Bodom, Wintersun, Arch Enemy, i just think Blink 182 is not in the same category as Fall Out Boy. |

Well... the first verse is pretty much taken straight from the Bible, that's when Cain kills his brother Avel.

It's actually a possibility that this song is about how change is good. But yeah this song is definately a mess, i wonder if it was Niklas who wrote it.
P.S. I don't think it has anything to do with them being Swedes, those guys speak english perfectly, its just they write lyrics in a very unique way, which is why i like em. |

Man, what the heck, bands like Fall Out Boy have thousands of people discussing their songs on this site, but when it comes to real music you got 3 replies???
Anyway, love this song, the first part of the song, up to the tempo change gives me like this feeling of hopelessness. And that part where Anders Friden screams : "So tell me, Tell ME!!!!" Makes it all really awesome.
Also i agree with the poster above me, we fail to realize that pleasure is temporary, so we spend our lives chasing it. |
