Modest Mouse – The View Lyrics 18 years ago
Good song, great message.. It's hard to appreciate the good things in life, without experiencing the bad.
I like the transition of loud and hard to quiet and slow. The ending brings it all together nicely.

Modest Mouse – Missed the Boat Lyrics 18 years ago
Great song, one of the best on the album. I started listening to MM when 'Good News' came out. I'm just as pleased with this one as I was with 'Good News. My friend called MM a "sell out" after that album. So I tried to get a hold of their old stuff before these guys "sold out". Then I realized calling them sellouts is weak and ignorant, cause everyones music evolves. I don't know what they're old stuff sounds like, but for the people calling "sell out" get off the bandwagon and chill, its good music no matter what way you look at it.
"Looking towards the future, we were begging for the past. Well, we know we had the good things, but those never seemed to last"
Great quote, so true, love the song.

Dave Matthews Band – Don't Drink the Water Lyrics 18 years ago
It can be about Native Americans, Africans, or bad tap water.. however way you interpret it, its still a damn good song. That's something we can all agree on.

Dave Matthews Band – Don't Drink the Water Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree that the song is about the puritan colonists pushing the Native Americans off of their sacret land. The puritans beleived they had a devine right from God to settle and expand their teachings of Chirst. The Native Americans were forced to convert, if they didnt they were turned into slaves, or eliminated.

"Don't drink the water, there's blood in the water." The water is referring to holy water that is now tainted with blood, the blood of the Native-Americans who were killed for not converting.

"God is not above you." He is talking to the puritans. Hes not reffering that the Puritains are above God, but that God is not above them giving them the devine right to massacure people in his name. It is a sin to kill, so in the puritans case God is neither above or below them, hes nowhere to be found.

It's a great song that I wish he would play at all his shows. The song can have a lot of meanings, I just thought Id throw my interpretation out there.
