Like the interpretations... two things though, twouglyfaces "Does Isaac Brock even have any kids? Mmm I don't think so." Yes, he has a 5 year old son I believe it's a son anyway. He isn't very close to his child though. The majority of this album (Black Cadillacs, Dig Your Grave, the Devil's Work Day, Satin in a Coffin, Bury Me With It... catching a trend here?)" Ocean Breathes Salty as well as One Chance have death, or passing themes in them. |

| Modest Mouse – Parting of the Sensory Lyrics | 18 years ago |

One of my favorites off their new album. I'm not sure whether this song has to do with religion, science or politics. It kind of makes sense in all theories brought up so far. I don't think any exact interpretation of this song could be believed true to everyone's perspective. This song has a lot in it. A lot of significance in many aspects. I'm not sure of the meaning, but I do think of a crew of fishermen doomed out at sea and suffering disadvantages of mother nature and they all die whenever I listen to this song. This song, is when the ship sinks. |

The whole song, all together, rocks. I think Modest Mouse brought themselves to a new level with their new album. I love it. |

| Modest Mouse – Float On Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The underlying chord progression in this song is quite sad and depressing. I'm not sure if many of you may know that or not. Personally, the underlying music itself is life saying "Shit happens." and the lyrics are saying "I know this shit happens, but we're floating on anyway.", along with the boppy beat and tempo of the song. | |
| Modest Mouse – The Good Times Are Killing Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Most of you disappoint me. Some of you disappoint me yet somehow I agree with you anyway. I'm cynical. I won't even start. Anyway, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what this song means. Too much of *anything* can kill you, even water. I'm glad Isaac/Modest Mouse wrote this song and published it though. Makes you all think twice... Well some of you anyway. |

Honestly I think this song has many different meanings, I think that was Isaac's intention anyway. This song is different in all ways. It could mean nothing, and may relate to stuff real world stuff. Personally I hear a passive tone in his voice in this song. Like he knows he can't himself resolve whatever the issue is. |

| Modest Mouse – Gravity Rides Everything Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I think it's a bit more than just one specific thing in life. Physically speaking, Gravity does more than just make things fall to the more massive object. Gravity is itself a system; a stable system, of planets and moons orbits and galaxies and star clusters. It keeps the universe going. Metaphorically speaking, this song lets you know that. |

I just love the ending of this song. The instrumental part is absolutely amazing! Trailer Trash is one of my favorite songs by MM. I have felt this song many times in the past years. |

^ Agrees with PeaceLoveAkGun You will come down soon too. Note: The music in this song is a descending riff, which adds to the effect of 'coming down', as the riff ends during the chorus the drummer hits the cymbal, making a 'crash' effect, or hitting rock bottom, or being buried. |

| Modest Mouse – The World at Large Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song is about feeling like you haven't met your potential in life, and no matter where you go or what you do, you never meet or fulfill it. It is about having so many choices in life and not knowing what choices you are here for or which are best for you. The world is chaotic, and nothing is 100% for sure, even if it seems to be. That is where the line "The moths beat themselves to death against the lights, adding their breeze to the summer nights." comes in. He realizes that no matter how much he tries to make the right choice or plan, there are always outside problems where you can't make a difference. They happen naturally and sometimes unannounced to you. "Outside, water, like air was great. I didn't know what I had that day." Was one of the only times he felt right in the world. Be it in air, or water, he felt like it was great. Yet the next line... "Walk a little farther to another plan, you said that you did but you didn't understand." Seems like he can't find someone who understands him, even though they said they did. Maybe it is a self-reference. Maybe he thought he understood his problem, but really didn't. Like others have said, this song can be interpreted many different ways line by line. All in all, it is a sad song about not knowing where you are or where you are going. - MM Fan for Life |
