| John Legend – Show Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Obviously it is about God. Legend says so himself in an interview with Mojo: "It's supposed to solund like you're lying in bed, having a conversation with God". | |
| Switchfoot – Amateur Lovers Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
The whole album leaves open the opportunity for dual interpretations, Christian and secular. No mention of salvation or redemption on Oh! Gravity.. Likewise with this song (sounds like the Rolling Stones at their best, doesn't it?). A secular reading of the song might suggest pure frustration at the lack of depth in a relationship, to the point of wanting to get out. But since he feels trapped in this relationship, he'll just carry on in it -- unfulfilled, but not necessarily unhappily. There'll be hell to pay when he eventually does fall in love properly... |

| Deb Talan – Cherry Trees Lyrics | 19 years ago |

One of the loveliest love songs I've heard. Pure poetry -- which isn't surprising because Deb lifts liberally from the poetry of Pablo Neruda (which she does acknowledge). The Cherry Tree line is definitely his. Get the live version in The Weepies' gig on www.archive.org — good sound quality, and Deb sings some f it in Spanish, presumably the words of Neruda. |
