I've always thought that the "Rocket in the Sky" is the feeling she gets when she's with this boy. The flying, bursting emotions of love is represented by the rocket, which is what she compares herself to. "Was a rocket in the sky I’m a rocket in the sky" can say that they've had a good relationship. She remains faithful to her lover, even he doesn't call her anymore, and waits by the telephone for him to know that he still cares about her. He doesn't show her the love he once had for her. After he stops calling her, she becomes a "rocket in disguise," instead of one in the sky. Although I'm not entirely sure what it means by being "in disguise", I'm guessing that it's the hidden feelings she still has for him. "Don't ask me why" could state that she doesn't know why she's feeling this way. "Tell me".. tell her that he cares about her? I love the longingness that comes from this song.. it still has a good amount of ambiguity in it. |
