uhm. okay... so it didn't post my full comment.... anyways, i'll retype it: this song reminds me of edie sedgwick and andy warhol: 1) andy's nickname was drella because he felt like a mix of cinderella and dracula. dracula is a vampire 2) "You wanna be set apart? Burn all of your art" edie left cambridge art school for new york city, a drawing career for a more flashy, modeling/acting one 3) the vampire in the forest fire in andy in the limelight ("I'm a vampire in a forest fire Hey! we all gotta keep warm"). it could also be edie at the factory, falling into drug addictions and the mental problems of her past. 4)"Your father was a pervert Face down in the dirt He taught you how to hurt" edie's father tried to rape her, raped her sisters and had an affair 5) "My father was a miner who lived in the suburbs" Andy's father is usually referenced to being a miner and most of the general public says this. (in truth he was a builder, but as miner is a general consensus, one can always assume that the arcade fire didn't do enough homework, or that tehy didn't need to- i mean, its a song, not a life story.) 6) "If I let where I'm from burn I can never return!" andy never forgot his past, and even let his mom live with him in nyc until her death. after she passed, he would tell anyone who asked about her that she was doing fine and was living. 7) "My brother reads you and me his new poetry" although not his brother, warhol's best friend and collaborator of the silver factory era was gerard malanga, a poet. 8) "Your sister pours the gasoline" Edie's sister was raped by her dad as well 9) "I'll fix your meals while your burns heal!" Andy took Edie under his wing and helped her out (untill they had a falling out, but still...) 10) "Find a house you don't have to rebuild..." possibly and giving edie the advice to restart her life and don't let her father and broken childhood get her down. theres a slim chance the song is about andy and edie, but even if it isn't, it defiently works :) |
