The way I see it is that it is about a guy who love this girl so much but circumstances makes it impossible for them to be together... a relationship of frustration and heartache...
my favorite lines are:

for me this means the guy doesn't know where to put himself in their relationship... like hanging or sumthin'... he is just somewhere in the middle cause the girl doesn't have the courage to tell him where he should stand...

This line shows how he wanted the girl so bad...
a powerful feel of love and despair...
