It's a pretty vivid portrayal of a drug addiction and overdosing. If you've ever had to deal with a freind who is a drug addict, they have millions of reasons to keep doing drugs. "With all the reasons you give, it's kinda hard to believe" It's a great description of the frustration of trying to help them and being pushed away. I think. |

Slash had the riff from this song long before Guns n' Roses, it was a guitar exercise he had made up just to keep his fingers limber. It sounds almost like carnival music, like at an old amusement park. So, one day the band is in this shitty house writing songs and Axl and Duff are arguing about something, and Slash plays this carnival music to be funny, and Izzy starts strumming F and D chords behind it, and everyone loved it, except Slash. He hated that song until when they started playing it live and he saw how much the fans loved it. I read that in a magazine interview with Slash, I think it was in Guitar Player Magazine, I forget. Oh, the lyrics are about being in love with a girl. Probably. |

Just an incredible song, not only the lyrics and vocals, but the arrangement and musicianship are absolutely phenomonal! It definately reminds me of going through bad times and just saying "Fuck it, it's alright." When Jerry sings "Oh well, A touch of grey", there is so much expression in his voice, I've never heard anything like that before. |

I agree with you israel75, Metallica is not Kirk Hammet. Metallica is Ulrich, Hetfield, Trujillo, and Hammet. This song is great, I love how violently the chorus kicks in after the soft melodic little bit. It's definately about controlling the people you love. |

One of my favorite Metalica songs. I think it's about when a person lives a life of depression, they can't feel any other emotions, happiness, love, ect. So when they finally get through the depression, they feel nothing, and it's feels better to feel depressed than feel nothing at all. |
