This song is about sex and how everything you seek is inherently associated with it, at least subconsciously. This transcends all boundaries and it's all about sexuality as a "force", not actualy heterosexual penetrative intercourse. Everybody experiences it regardless of their desires or outlets. "I traveled the world and the seven seas, everybody's looking for something" I don't know if I made myself clear or if it's impossible to decipher this, but that's my take on it anyway. |

Mostly because he has said so himself in interviews. Let me set this straight for you and the rest of people here: Afaik he has never had schizophrenia, but he spent some time being addicted to speed, which in his case caused temporary psychosis(a common side effect of heavy speed use). Schizophrenia is more a definition than a set disorder. When someone is psychotic for a period of two weeks or longer, or fulfill other criteria, they are considered schizophrenic. This has nothing to do with multiple personalities. Schizophrenia and drug induced psychosis is also not the same. He was raped as a child and wrote a song about it entitled "Daddy" on their first cd. Whether this song has anything to do with that or not, I don't know, but he wasn't a schizo anyway. |

I agree wholeheartedly on the "most daring debut albums ever recorded", truth is, I discovered King Crimson just recently and could hardly believe what I saw when I found out they did most of their recordings in the early seventies. This was WAY ahead of their time, and as you say, nothing we have today can really compare to it either. Awesome band. |

As much as the name suggests cocaine I can't help but feel in every vein in my body that this song is about good 'ol Mary Jane. Think about it. First of all, the mellow feel to the whole tune, the lyrics(getting to this shortly) and the fact that I can't imagine Sonic Youth as coke fiends. Ok, so lets analyze: You're prefect in the way A perfect end today (a joint at the end of the day? a perfect end to the day, one seldom does coke when one is about to go to bed) You're burning out their lies and burning in their eyes (red, dry eyes with dilated pupils. Also a reference to burning suggest that this is about a drug that is inhaled as smoke) i love you sugar kane coming from the rain kiss me like a frog turn me into flame (turns your world into magic and mystery, he loves the sugah kane, self explanatory. Also, flame bit another reference to smoke inhalation) I'm just gonna pick out the most interesting parts now, a lot of it is self-explanatory i'm back again in love i'm back again a dove (you smoke it and the world is magic again, taking coke wouldn't make you feel like a dove, as he states) every night i say light is coming (he lights up every evening, another luminous experience every night) Angel come and play part is self-explanatory The main reason as to why I am 100% sure this song is about marijuana though, is because of the lines: i love you Sugar Kane a crack into the dream A crack into the dream eh? Sounds like a spot-on description of a THC high. That's my opinion anyway. |

I look at this song as a pretty obvious reflection over the grasp Soothsayer had over the guys in the band. Seems as if they liken it to their use and abuse of hard drugs in the past, and that they should have known that soothsayer would "always scratch that itch". The need to get away, to experience the supernatural, to escape reality, well-known reasons to use drugs recreationally. I think they're basically starting to doubt if most enjoyable things can do anything but harm in the long run. "There is no miracle I lost your miracle" - Nothing is free. Anything entertaining or enjoyable has its cost. There is no miracle. "Heaven’s made a cesspool of us all" same as above. Heaven (pleasure, the supernatural, the intensely powerful experiences) has ruined him. There is no heaven. There is no perfect state of mind. There is no peace. Heaven's made a cesspool of us all. Just my interpretation. |

For some reason I have always thought of this song as the periods of deep dissociation (an almost dream-like, numbed mental state) one can go into after periods of prolonged mental pain. It's like the intro is the pounding repeating thoughts and feelings of lethargy and misery, and then the guitar enters into a dreamlike, floating verse. I think this fits especially good with the first verse and the chorus, but it might as well be about drugs. This is just what it means to me anyway. |

Some aspects to this song gives me connotions to when you've experienced something really bad, or your life is hell, and you decide to be "brave" and just tell yourself "it will pass" "what doesn't kill you can only make you stronger" and all that but in the end you just break down because whatever affection you is making you feel so sad and hopeless. Especially the melody, which is kinda sad, but more tired and world-weary, and when he sings stuff like "Laughing is easy, i would i i could..." and "Aint gonna worry, just live 'til you diiiiiiiieiwannadrown" as in he's trying to take it like a man and be strong, but just can't. Great song. |

Well that sounds sensible really. Whether she breaks up because you were holding back or whatever, i think this song is, as the title suggests, mainly about seeing the girl you're still madly in love with in the arms of another, knowing that even though she means the world to you and you've never loved like this before, you're never gonna get her back, and she's through with you forever. Stuff like that tends to bring about the idea of suicide. I just read an article where scientists had found that suicide rates among heartbroken men were way higher than among girls, and i like the way Chris has through his entire career highlighted that emotional problems do in fact exist with guys as well, they even tend to be worse and more wide-spread. So yeah i think it's a guy song, there's too many chick songs and girls get over this so easily anyway... I would most likely consider killing myself had i seen anyone with their arms around my lost love... |

I just really love the whole cannibalism idea, it fits so well with the dark humor of other QOTSA songs like How To Handle A Rope and Mosquito song. I just imagine this song being about this guy who fucks a girl and doesn't understand that it was just a one-night stand (which is suggested that she takes for granted as she is a loose girl) so he just goes all dreamy and psychotic and kills her, possibly eats her corpse, or maybe fucks her? I can't really make the connection to the environment. To me the whole theme of the song, the lyrics and the dark despaired empty melody seems to fit more with just the illustration of a bad hallucinogenic trip and the emptiness that preceeds any drug use. The line "i eat the razor, a mouthfull of god's flesh" makes this even more clear in my opinion, since the common hallucinogenic mushroom was holy in south america, and the native american's called it "the flesh of gods". He's literally saying "i stuff my mouth with magic mushrooms to kill off the pain, like one would commit suicide with razors, except i eat my release instead" |

Fucking awesome song! Love the riff at the last part... Wish someone could figure out what he said at the third line of the last verse though... I'm thinking, if this song is anything but a tribute to conan, could it be about society and how Electric Wizard percieves it as flawed? "Conan rules with an iron fist Many people, they look up to him" could be about the government, and how they're in control of everything. And while normal people like this, Electric Wizard would rather have it some other way "You think you're civilized, but you will never understand" Fits with the whole "Legalize drugs & Murder" theme throghout their music. But then again, this song is probably just written purely for its entertainment value, telling the story of Conan the barbarian. |

There's something about this song, a dark atmosphere, something beyond the lyrics when you just read them here.
