Eurythmics – Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song is about sex and how everything you seek is inherently associated with it, at least subconsciously. This transcends all boundaries and it's all about sexuality as a "force", not actualy heterosexual penetrative intercourse. Everybody experiences it regardless of their desires or outlets. "I traveled the world and the seven seas, everybody's looking for something" I don't know if I made myself clear or if it's impossible to decipher this, but that's my take on it anyway. |
Cat Stevens – Mona Bone Jakon Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Seems a bit odd seeing as how it's Cat Stevens, but oh well! I don't have any better ideas really. |
Sonic Youth – Self Obsessed and Sexxee Lyrics | 13 years ago |
It's about self absorbed, narcissistic and shallow people with stereotypical celebrity personas, and most likely how Sonic Youth want to distance themselves from that. |
Steely Dan – Rikki Don't Lose That Number Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think that while people don't necessarily think the meaning Fagen stated is the one and only or 100% correct, it does seem more correct that assumptions about Eric Clapton. |
Cocteau Twins – Ivo Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I agree. Trying to decipher CT lyrics is almost always an exercise in futility. She could be singing in gaelic here for all we know. |
Cocteau Twins – Violaine Lyrics | 14 years ago |
According to the band biography on the cocteau twins website the lyrics to this song were mostly just english words sung backwards, so this is obviously not it. |
Death – Spiritual Healing Lyrics | 14 years ago |
In what way was he a bad person? The way you write makes you seem like you're some kind of delusional religious fanatic who thinks airing an opinion about organized religioin warrants death through cancer. As for viewpoints, who mentioned anything about the quote being the only viewpoint in the world? You seem to have problems understanding the difference between stating a fact and stating an opinion yourself. I suggest you wait until you get some manners and the ability to perform logical deductions(it might make you an atheist even) before you make yourself look completely void of integrity through your posts. |
Tomahawk – 101 North Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is most likely not about a car jacker but rather a serial killer either picking up victims with his car or hitching a ride in the car of others. I write this because the album the song is from is a concept album about a serial killer where each song represents one of the many phases they are believed to go through. |
Faith No More – Be Aggressive Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Actually, it's about sucking cock. Go read up on it. |
KoЯn – Predictable Lyrics | 14 years ago |
To me this song is about just living your everyday normal life and feel something's lacking. |
KoЯn – Hey Daddy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Mostly because he has said so himself in interviews. Let me set this straight for you and the rest of people here: Afaik he has never had schizophrenia, but he spent some time being addicted to speed, which in his case caused temporary psychosis(a common side effect of heavy speed use). Schizophrenia is more a definition than a set disorder. When someone is psychotic for a period of two weeks or longer, or fulfill other criteria, they are considered schizophrenic. This has nothing to do with multiple personalities. Schizophrenia and drug induced psychosis is also not the same. He was raped as a child and wrote a song about it entitled "Daddy" on their first cd. Whether this song has anything to do with that or not, I don't know, but he wasn't a schizo anyway. |
Monster Magnet – Blow 'Em Off Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I've always thought of this as Dave's song about his own "inner child" sort of. He's had a lot of trouble with his own mind after all from what I've read. I think this song is just a general song about being far down and feeling so afraid because nobody can help you. |
Faith No More – Digging The Grave Lyrics | 15 years ago |
A message to an introvert "hiding" in the spaces of his own mind and home. The outside world is where opportunities lie. This song speaks to me on a personal level. |
Muse – Supermassive Black Hole Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is older than the movie though. Could of course be about the book, but I'm guessing it's not and that the movie simply used the song because they found it fitting. |
Alice in Chains – Dirt Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Pure distilled drug fueled self-destructiveness. Awesome song, awesome riffs. |
King Crimson – The Court of the Crimson King Lyrics | 15 years ago |
There does indeed seem to be quite a bit of drugs going on here. Great song. I agree wholeheartedly on the "most daring debut albums ever recorded", truth is, I discovered King Crimson just recently and could hardly believe what I saw when I found out they did most of their recordings in the early seventies. This was WAY ahead of their time, and as you say, nothing we have today can really compare to it either. Awesome band. |
The Mars Volta – Cassandra Geminni: Multiple Spouse Wounds Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Pretty sure Multiple Spouse Wounds is AIDS. |
Siouxsie and the Banshees – Sin In My Heart Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is such an awesome projection of the emotions it's trying to convey. I wish people made music like this today. |
Alice in Chains – Them Bones Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Although I see what you mean, I can't help but point out that it doesn't take a genious to predict that oneself will die one day. |
Sonic Youth – Theresa's Sound-World Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Maybe Theresa is blind. Or dead. |
Sonic Youth – Sugar Kane Lyrics | 15 years ago |
As much as the name suggests cocaine I can't help but feel in every vein in my body that this song is about good 'ol Mary Jane. Think about it. First of all, the mellow feel to the whole tune, the lyrics(getting to this shortly) and the fact that I can't imagine Sonic Youth as coke fiends. Ok, so lets analyze: You're prefect in the way A perfect end today (a joint at the end of the day? a perfect end to the day, one seldom does coke when one is about to go to bed) You're burning out their lies and burning in their eyes (red, dry eyes with dilated pupils. Also a reference to burning suggest that this is about a drug that is inhaled as smoke) i love you sugar kane coming from the rain kiss me like a frog turn me into flame (turns your world into magic and mystery, he loves the sugah kane, self explanatory. Also, flame bit another reference to smoke inhalation) I'm just gonna pick out the most interesting parts now, a lot of it is self-explanatory i'm back again in love i'm back again a dove (you smoke it and the world is magic again, taking coke wouldn't make you feel like a dove, as he states) every night i say light is coming (he lights up every evening, another luminous experience every night) Angel come and play part is self-explanatory The main reason as to why I am 100% sure this song is about marijuana though, is because of the lines: i love you Sugar Kane a crack into the dream A crack into the dream eh? Sounds like a spot-on description of a THC high. That's my opinion anyway. |
The Damned – I Just Can't Be Happy Today Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Despite of his intentions in keeping his chin held high at all times, he just can't be happy today. |
The Sisters of Mercy – Burn Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think it's about our beloved Mary Jane. |
The Mars Volta – Agadez Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I look at this song as a pretty obvious reflection over the grasp Soothsayer had over the guys in the band. Seems as if they liken it to their use and abuse of hard drugs in the past, and that they should have known that soothsayer would "always scratch that itch". The need to get away, to experience the supernatural, to escape reality, well-known reasons to use drugs recreationally. I think they're basically starting to doubt if most enjoyable things can do anything but harm in the long run. "There is no miracle I lost your miracle" - Nothing is free. Anything entertaining or enjoyable has its cost. There is no miracle. "Heaven’s made a cesspool of us all" same as above. Heaven (pleasure, the supernatural, the intensely powerful experiences) has ruined him. There is no heaven. There is no perfect state of mind. There is no peace. Heaven's made a cesspool of us all. Just my interpretation. |
The Sisters of Mercy – Ribbons Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Mejoff, you found the words where I didn't, thank you! To me, that is the exact meaning of the song. As we speak I am experiencing this very scenario, and it is confusing. Love is indeed a many splintered thing. |
The Sisters of Mercy – Temple Of Love (Extended) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think this song is made to be about just about anything, most obviously about the Vietnam War, and also about Love. Probably a lot more too. |
Katatonia – Saw You Drown Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think it's the end of a relationship, and the verse and the bridge is sung by the narrator, which drowns himself while the other person who is singing the chorus part watches, being scarred for life. I think so because of the "The last thing that you'll see" before the chorus, and because it fits better with my own interpretation of the song. |
Queens of the Stone Age – I Think I Lost My Headache Lyrics | 16 years ago |
For some reason I have always thought of this song as the periods of deep dissociation (an almost dream-like, numbed mental state) one can go into after periods of prolonged mental pain. It's like the intro is the pounding repeating thoughts and feelings of lethargy and misery, and then the guitar enters into a dreamlike, floating verse. I think this fits especially good with the first verse and the chorus, but it might as well be about drugs. This is just what it means to me anyway. |
The Cult – Rise Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I agree 100% with curehead and ultimatemusic. Great song and a great description of those of us who feel we don't get our worth, since a larger part of the world is unable to realize the depth of perception one can truly acheive. |
Queens of the Stone Age – You Can't Quit Me Baby Lyrics | 16 years ago |
There's something with this song that just rips me in a way everytime i hear it, the line "You're solid gold, I'll see you in hell." Say so much and they're so strong you can feel the whole situation and perhaps remember a time when you yourself was "psycho in love" Only this poor fucker takes the step where you stopped at considering it. |
The Mars Volta – Televators Lyrics | 16 years ago |
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julio_Venegas The posture and those eyes... That's pain right there. You know you really want to die when you have the balls to jump of a building. Poor guy. |
Queens of the Stone Age – In The Fade Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Some aspects to this song gives me connotions to when you've experienced something really bad, or your life is hell, and you decide to be "brave" and just tell yourself "it will pass" "what doesn't kill you can only make you stronger" and all that but in the end you just break down because whatever affection you is making you feel so sad and hopeless. Especially the melody, which is kinda sad, but more tired and world-weary, and when he sings stuff like "Laughing is easy, i would i i could..." and "Aint gonna worry, just live 'til you diiiiiiiieiwannadrown" as in he's trying to take it like a man and be strong, but just can't. Great song. |
Chris Cornell – Arms Around Your Love Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Well that sounds sensible really. Whether she breaks up because you were holding back or whatever, i think this song is, as the title suggests, mainly about seeing the girl you're still madly in love with in the arms of another, knowing that even though she means the world to you and you've never loved like this before, you're never gonna get her back, and she's through with you forever. Stuff like that tends to bring about the idea of suicide. I just read an article where scientists had found that suicide rates among heartbroken men were way higher than among girls, and i like the way Chris has through his entire career highlighted that emotional problems do in fact exist with guys as well, they even tend to be worse and more wide-spread. So yeah i think it's a guy song, there's too many chick songs and girls get over this so easily anyway... I would most likely consider killing myself had i seen anyone with their arms around my lost love... |
Electric Wizard – Witchcult Today Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Our witchcult grows... |
Tool – Cold and Ugly Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Well to me this is about a person completely unable to open up or expose him/her self due to past experiences. I feel real bad about attributing something so mundane and simple to a Tool song, but this is what the song means to me. |
Slayer – Postmortem Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Definitely about afterlife, "death is just the start" kind of thing. He doesnt like life or is just so curious/immersed in the whole idea of the afterlife, of wiping himself out to acheive immortality in death (somewhat of a paradox) "Chanting Lines Of Blind Witchery To Save Yourself From Extinction Wanting To Die Is Your Reason To Live" The search of immortality through death, everlasting life through the ending of life, only void is forever, kinda deep stuff behind this. Love the feeling you get when he sings "What I am, What I want, Im only after Death" combined with the classic trashmetal drum snap stopping everything for a second before it all comes slaughtering back. Its as if you can hear him entering forever |
KoЯn – Helmet In The Bush Lyrics | 16 years ago |
As some have pointed out before me, this song is about having a meth problem that causes your dick to loose bloodflow, essentially reducing it to a "Helmet in the bush" and making you unable to get a boner. I can see why he's upset. |
Kyuss – Gloria Lewis Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Sounds like a psycho who kills and fucks women in my opinion. Love the chorus and when he goes "And i'll slug you in your FUCKING HEAD yeaaaah" and gets all calm again, such a brilliantly sleazy psycho, gotta love it! |
Queens of the Stone Age – Leg Of Lamb Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I just really love the whole cannibalism idea, it fits so well with the dark humor of other QOTSA songs like How To Handle A Rope and Mosquito song. I just imagine this song being about this guy who fucks a girl and doesn't understand that it was just a one-night stand (which is suggested that she takes for granted as she is a loose girl) so he just goes all dreamy and psychotic and kills her, possibly eats her corpse, or maybe fucks her? (Infiltrate the walls that are caving in) So he goes all dreamy and passive as if it's a dream, the whole upbeat-psychotic-dreamy atmosphere is so well created Love how "Leg of lamb" refers both to the fact that she's a hot young girl and that she's a meal to him, after all, It aint a bad thing, Because it's natural |
Entombed – Scottish Hell Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Obviously a joke, or they've had some really bad experience with a scotsman. Lyrics aside, fucking genious riff. Simple, heavy, and somehow empty and lost, kinda sad. |
Melvins – The Horn Bearer Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Maybe one of the more obvious Melvins songs, if you like interpreting and take it at face value. Best of The Maggot in my opinion. |
Mastodon – Megalodon Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Well, even though they do mention "the Fiji mermaid" a Megalodon is a huge prehistoric shark-like dinosaur as some have mentioned before me. Love the song, especially when the tempo shifts. Also, Melfyn, check out my email. You know me. |
Melvins – Antitoxide Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Also, the song's title is "Antitoxidote", not "Antitoxide". |
Acid Bath – Venus Blue Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I can't really make the connection to the environment. To me the whole theme of the song, the lyrics and the dark despaired empty melody seems to fit more with just the illustration of a bad hallucinogenic trip and the emptiness that preceeds any drug use. The line "i eat the razor, a mouthfull of god's flesh" makes this even more clear in my opinion, since the common hallucinogenic mushroom was holy in south america, and the native american's called it "the flesh of gods". He's literally saying "i stuff my mouth with magic mushrooms to kill off the pain, like one would commit suicide with razors, except i eat my release instead" |
Electric Wizard – Barbarian Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Think the line is "Vile powers, in the measure of a man" |
Electric Wizard – Barbarian Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Fucking awesome song! Love the riff at the last part... Wish someone could figure out what he said at the third line of the last verse though... I'm thinking, if this song is anything but a tribute to conan, could it be about society and how Electric Wizard percieves it as flawed? "Conan rules with an iron fist Many people, they look up to him" could be about the government, and how they're in control of everything. And while normal people like this, Electric Wizard would rather have it some other way "You think you're civilized, but you will never understand" Fits with the whole "Legalize drugs & Murder" theme throghout their music. But then again, this song is probably just written purely for its entertainment value, telling the story of Conan the barbarian. |
Queens of the Stone Age – In My Head Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think i remember seeing an interview with Josh Once where he said he didn't do any drugs at all (except smoking & drinking), he seems like a ladie's man, so my bet is that this song is actually a standard love song, like it or not. He said in another interwiev something like "perfect rock has to be heavy enough for the guys and sweet enough for the girls" so i wouldn't really be suprised. Great song anyway. |
Melvins – At The Stake Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I've always loved this song, it was actually the song that got me to really look into the Melvins after having semi-listened to them a while. There's something about this song, a dark atmosphere, something beyond the lyrics when you just read them here. Read straight forward as the lyrics are here (if they're right at all) they seem to be about the burning of witches or something of the sorts, but i don't know, there's something more i think. |
