| Bullets and Octane – My Disease Lyrics | 19 years ago |

To me it's like this song is about a feeling of emptiness. Wake up, getting dressed; these are basic things. In a simple human life. But it's like he's not enjoying it. It's like a disease, reality is like a disease to him. |

We were mailing about a piece of the song. And we were wondering what you think. I came across a fallen tree I felt the branches of it looking at me Is this the place we used to love? Is this the place that I've been dreaming of? Rachel: In my opinion the song is about a place that symbolises love. Maybe his symbol of love is a peaceful forest. But when he enters the forest, he realises it has changed. The "fallen tree" isn't what it used to be. He can still feel the branches, looking at him, as if they are searching for recognition. But he doesn't recognise the place anymore. And he wonders whether this is the place where he has been dreaming of. Tim: That's a fair explanation, I can relate to that. I think the place in the song indeed symbolizes love. As he thinks about that place, he walks across a fallen tree. I think the fallen tree represents something that's broken (d'oh?) - as he walks by he "feels" the branches of the tree looking at him. He isn't sure, he doesn't check if they're really looking at him, he just feels it. The feeling that someone or something is watching you represents a feeling of fear or in this case, in my humble opinion, guilt. He's afraid to check if they're really looking at him, he just feels like the branches are blaming him of destroying the tree. Or, going back to reality, he feels guilty about destroying the place (love) that once was beautiful. But I might be reflecting this on myself too much ;) Rachel: You make it complete. I also think the tree plays a big part when it comes to symbolising the place (that symbolises love) Maybe even a key role; without the tree it's incomplete. And the fact that he feels the branches but doesn't look at them: I love your thoughts on that! I was afraid to say that the tree was playing a bigger part because it gave me feeling I was giving the tree too much credit But maybe I shouldn't be afraid. (Maybe the tree symbolises his lover who was changed so much that she has made it impossible to recognise the place) Or (even better) the tree symbolises the relationship which is now dying He can feel it but he cannot bare to look at it. And he keeps looking for something that will make it complete again. |
